I know the 1979 intake was quite a bit different, with larger ports, not sure if the earlier even-fire intakes are the same as the odd-fire. Of course the odd-fire was a 225 was it not?

the early V6 was a 225 , then near the end of the oddfire life was the 231

not sure if jeep ever used the 231 or not , but i know buick and the others used the 231 , but having not been into the V6's , i havent paid much attention , ive been a 4cyl or V8 guy , but the 73 im getting has a 231 odd fire and has the stock egr intake on it , and im not a fan of egr , and emissions carbs , so its all gotta GO

If this was a car I was going to sink a lot of money into, I would start off with a heavy duty 79' 231. That will get you much better heads designed by Smokey Unick, stronger crank and stronger block, I even think they improved the oiling. Probably easier to find parts too.

Sorry I dont have pictures of the intakes, go to the junkyard and pick up a pair of 79 or later heads - thats what I did. Then you can use an Edelbrock intake purchased cheap used off ebay.

The early Buick V-6's were 198 ci, then they went to 225 ci in the late mid 60's, Jeep kept them at 225 for there production, and buick took them to 231 in 75 after they bought them back from AMC. It was a cost thing nothing to do with performance, at 231 ci's it could use the same rod and piston as a Buick 350 V-8!!!!

As for the Intakes, you can use any year intake before 79. The late 77 & 78 even fire motors use the same intake as the 75-early 77 odd fire motors. If interested I have a set of rebuilt 79 and up "high post heads" notheing performance done to them. still in the machine shop bags . You can have them for $50.00 plus shipping. they will bolt on to any 231 engine, I don't know about the earlier 225 engines.

I even used a early non EGR Holley intake on my High port heads, I just had alot of port matching to do, they actually cast in enough material to increase the high of the runners over 1/4"!!!!

Here is a good link for details about the year-to-year differences of the Buick V-6 engine. Lots of casting numbers, too.

Correct, they are actually 83 heads, and have a few desirable upgrades over the 79 & 80 heads in the cooling jackets. Thea earlier 79-81 heads tended to blow head gaskets so they divided the larger end cooling passages to help prevent that. I have had them for 2 years, so a couple more weeks won't matter. I will post up some better pic's of the heads later this week, these are just a couple of shots from my hard HD to show the differance in the cooling jackets.
