It's a 730, Speed Density. No room for a MAF sensor.

I'm running a '92 Z-28 TPI with stock ECM. 15 years without any problems (knock on wood :) )

I just finished getting the air conditioning installed

Hmmmm, I see 2 different Vegas with TPI, and they both are speed density; and I plan on using an 89 GTA motor(and ECM) that's mass air. Has anyone done this? I guess I'll need to make a pretty sharp turn to get the MAF meter mounted over towards the(now empty) battery tray. I have the Firebird's OEM canister air cleaner but will probably fab up something a little prettier and use a cone filter out in front of the rad support. I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to do this; anyone else have pictures of Tuned Port in a Vega?

By the way, RockDaddy's LS motor looks BADA$$!!!

Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

Spencer,

My engine started life as a MAF system, but I converted it to SD due to the plumbing issues (and I find the MAF a bit ugly :)).

I just took a complete wiring harness and ECM from a 92 IROC. There is a lot less wiring needed then there is for the MAF.
I used the old power wire for the coil to trigger the main relay to feed everything else under the hood.

If you do go the MAF route, you could drop the charcoal canister down into the inner fender and mount a Camaro canister air filter in its place.

A company called JTR (Jags that run) used to carry all kinds of elbows and bends for the intake.

If you take an old style sbc thermostat housing, you can mount it backwards on the TPS intake to make room for the upper rad hose. The TPI housing stuck out so far it almost touched the rad.

Now that I have AC, the alternator has been moved to the drivers side, so I had to modify the upper rad hose even more to make room. The mechanical fan has been replaced by a 16" SPAL to make room for the Griffin aluminum rad.

I'll post an updated picture later this week.

E-mail me if you have any questions on getting it all to fit.

Cheers,

Tim

My TPI also started as MAF setup but I changed to SD for the same reasons Tim did.

I bought an aftermarket stand alone harness, and ECM for a SD systems. It was a simple plug and play setup.

Speaking of JTR if you are going to use a 700R4 you will need a VSS for a cable drive speedo. If you need on I have an extra one of these VSS' I'm not using.

15 years Tim? That's encouraging. I've been running mine since Feb with just over 3000 miles and so far so good.

I was the first to put a TPI a Vega as far as I know, and this was before the internet..

I had nothing but a few photocopies of the Camaro ecm wiring diagram from a GM service manual to go on :)

I was more then a little happy (and suprised) when it fired up for the first time.

Cheers,

Tim

I have a Gen-II LT1 that I will be firing with a carb and converting to EFI after it's been broken in.

Rockdaddy, you're my hero. Anyone that puts an LSx in an H-Body is the man.
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.
