Edelbrock intake & stock vega hood

Postby Vman » Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:54 pm

Please help! Does anyone know if a Edelbrock performer or performer RPM intake, will clear the stock vega hood. Any help would be appreciated.

i have an edelbrock performer rpm air gap intake and a 650 thunder series carb with the small elite series(finned) breather on top i removed the ribs in the center of the hood but other than that it cleared no problem! also cleared with a demon carb on it as well.

I ran a victor jr on my last vega and had to run a tiny air filter to clear the hood. I would think the performer or performer rpm would have better clearence, it all comes down to air filter choices.

hey speedphreake. how tall is your intake from front bottom(where rubber intake gasket goes accross front(and rear) ) to where the carb bolts on. my intake is about 6 1/4 inches at this point and i dont know if i will have to cut out steel on underside of hood(strengthening steel) and maybe even have to cut hole and install a scoop. if you could help me with this info (i have a 75 vega) i would appreciate. if your setup is like mine and all fits, how tall is your air cleaned. PS my engine sits at the standard height of all v-8 vegas(just clearing the center link) so you know the heigth of my motor. any info is appreciated thanks chevy art

I ran a Holly Strip Dominator with a drop base 14x3 air cleaner on my 327. I had to remove some bracing for it to clear, but the Strip Dominator is one TALL intake. 8)

I am going to use the same intake you have with a holley 850 double pumper. Holley also makes a low profile breather. I guess I will just try it and see!

Hey Art, I don't know if my measurements will help you or not. I'm using a motor plate amd moved the center link down so I don't know where my motor sits compared to others. I can take some measurements this weekend if you still need them.

thanks speedphreake you dont have to do that. its going to beclose either way so i will just wait till the motors in and put the hood on and say two our fathers and two hail marys and see what happens. this way will be like checking valve to piston clearance with clay. im just about positive i will need a hood scoop over a carved out stock hood. at least it will look nicew in the end.. work i dont need, but when i signed on with this car i knew it was always a battle for clearances but when i look at all these beautiful cars on the forum i know all the work is worth it. . just curious. is your hood(if its a stock hood) cut or pounded out for clearance under the hood scoop . thanks chevy art

Yes there is a big hole cut in the stock hood under the scoop. I'm running a Super Victor intake on this motor and the hood barely closed without an airfilter. I'm running a 4" K&N filter now and just barely clears the scoop. I'll be switching to a 3" filter when I put the nitrous plate on.
