Weber Air cleaner on Holley 5200 ?

Postby Stevie » Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:27 am

Hi guys,

I know that the 2bbl Holley 5200 on my stock vega 4-banger is basically a rebuild Weber 32/36 Weber DFEV carb.
So i believe it should be possible to use Air- cleaners like these here, or not ?
http://www.carburetion.com/Weber/weberpartsair.asp

Has someone here tried this before ?
Could I use the higher 2 5/8'' version or only the 1 7/8'' (hood clearance !) ?

What about the carb setup ? I do not expect that the A/F mixture will change much only by using a different air filter...

Thank you for every reply.

Steffen,

Here's one on eBay. It looks like the Holley is shaped a little differently at the top than the Weber, maybe you cam modify the bottom of the air cleaner.

Hi Dick,

I dont see any difference in the top. What do you mean ?

I guess I have to measure out the thickness of the stock air cleaner to choose the correct version (2 5/8'' or 1 7/8'')...

Maybe someone uses these air cleaners already ?

This is the one that was on the link you noted. Looks like I looked at the wrong one!

Steffen,

Looks like it shuld fit the "32/36 Weber DFEV/AV Series carbs". as long as you can clear the hood. It looks like a good air cleaner.

I have switched to the ACTUAL Weber carbs on my Vegas and there is a VAST improvement over the turd "Holley-Weber" emission carb that came on Vegas. They start/idle/run better and there is a noticable improvement at full throttle.
Vegas are a lean running car due to the epa and fuel crunch of the 70's. Give them a little more fuel and they are happy.
DGEV is a direct bolt on but you have to play with the linkage a bit. The little oval air cleaners are neat too.
they use the factory manifold. I switched mine to electric choke on one car and no choke on the others.
