850 Metering Blocks?

Postby Bob Gumm » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:51 am

I'm building a custom Holley 850 and need some carb gurus to chime in. I've looked at a bunch of Holley, Demon, Quick Fuel, AED, etc. aftermarket metering blocks and can't seem to find any that specifically will work on an 850 CFM carb. Anyone got any experience on what I should look for to make sure the air tubes and fuel orifaces are adequate for an 850? Any part numbers or stamps I should look for, and what about gaskets, will 4150 gaskets work? I'm putting this together for a 468 big-block project.

Thanks,
Bob Gumm

I am using http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/mete ... tes-1.html Quick Fuel billet metering blocks Uses the holly 4150 gaskets.

There is a metering block made the has both Air and gas jet adjustable. Support up to 1100. Just can't remember the name right now. :bang:
I need go to my local speed shop later. They don't open to noon on wednesday

Just notice that Art gave you the same info on quickfuel :th:

Yep, I'm looking at getting the Quick Fuel blocks. They sell jets for fine tuning the blocks, but I'm sure I'll have to take a class on how to tune them. I definitely have the tools, CO meter, air/fuel meter, NOX meter, temp gun, etc. But it would help if there was a specific baseline starting point. I guess it makes me skeptic when I read that they work with 600, 750, and 850 carbs. Just gives me the feeling that there's no way they'll work on each equally well right out of the box without some tuning. I'll try calling them and maybe they can put this to rest.

bob let us know when you get some info. i just rebuilt three race carbs to try on my different engines ( 750 800 850) and the only noticible difference is that the 850 has 1 3/4 butterflies and all the others have 1 11/16 butterflies. and the metering blocks all look the same although there are different cast #s on them, so unless you know the difference, that dont help much. one of the carbs (800 cfm )has an aftermarket center and that has changeable air bleeds as a very helpful tuning aid.. good luck with your project art
