electric choke power from?

Postby gremlin » Sat May 07, 2011 9:44 pm

i just replaced my carb, the old one had no choke at all, the new one has an electric choke.

so how have you guys wired your electric choke? it has to be ignition switched.

the only place i can think of is the radio. but where do i run the wire through the firewall?
is there anywhere under the hood to tap into?

(it's a 1980 sunbird with a 350)

The wiring diagram for your car shows the electric choke tapped into the pink wire on the oil pressure sender(same wire that feeds the fuel pump). If you can't find that, you can tap the electric choke wire into the HEI power feed(also 14 or 12ga. pink) under the hood, but it should be soldered. I also see a "carb solenoid" 18ga. pink wire in there that would have been for an idle stop actuator. Basically, look for a pink wire under the hood and try it.
