MSD Atomic EFI

Postby monzabug350 » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:19 am

Has anyone seen the new MSD Atomic EFI unit? Just got my Feb.2012 issue and came across the ad on page 23.Pulled up the site and watched the vid.VVVEEERRRY INTERESTING!!. Just about the simplest install I have seen to date.It can be instaled on a standard 4bbl square bore intake and there are kits for small and big block engines,be it a chev, mopar,or ford. no prices, but Im guessing its in the 1500-2500 range depending on what you order. As soon as prices are available Im looking at putting one on my Monza, and yes,Im putting away every nickle I can find! Just pull up www.ATOMICEFI.com and enjoy. Merry Christmas to all.

There are other similar systems on the market. Holley and FAST come to mind. Most are self-learning now.
The thing that separates the MSD unit from the others is the annular discharge venturies. This should give you the best of carburetors and fuel injection. The price is a little steep but at the same time I have never done well with carbs :bang:
Ironically Barry Grant had a similar system in development close to ten years ago and there were also rumors of him developing carburetor-to-injection conversion kits.

I've always wanted to see a dyno shakedown on one of those types of things. Just to see how good of a job they do.

If that's a concern, you don't want fuel injection.

If you want to ante up for a new bolt on style kit then you are right. But that is not necessarily true if you are a bit innovative. It is not really that hard to convert a factory system to use on an older car, and can be done fairly inexpensively. If you have not done it before it just takes some time and study.

Time is always the hard part for me, thats why so many are willing to pay the big bucks , they don't have the time either .Check out dynamic efi and diyauto tune. Both have some pretty cool efi ecm setups ranging from do it yourself to built and ready to bolt on.you just supply the throttle body or multiport injection pieces wire things up and Bam you got a tuneable efi set up.The diyautotune site has some tech articles on the conversion that realy show you how easy it is to convert to efi.Its on my list of things to get one day if I only had more time!

I just installed the EZ EFI system onto my BBC Vega a month ago and love it. Easy to use easy to install and simple tuning. I went with the EZ EFI system based on recommendations, and price differences. The MSD unit is more expensive and has not been out as long. It does offer control over the ignition system, which the EZ EFI does not.

I spent $1,750 for my EZ EFI system off of ebay and it included the pump and hose kit. After selling the Demon 850 carb, elec pump and regulator, it really didn't cost me that much more. Especially since I was going to have the Carb Dyno tuned and that would have cost me another $400-500. Which I no longer have to worry about. Car runs great... I LOVE IT! Highly recommend it. I am fairly positive that the MSD atomic system would be very comparable in ease of install and use.

See my videos below.

I guess you don't go to the track much, (or Tech isn't doing their jobs), that much rubber hose (especially with that much fuel pressure), and the regulator mounted on the firewall are BIG no-nos, :? :?
