fuel tank question

on my 71 hatchback ther is a small metal tank located in fenderwell above main tank has two hose to tank one to vapor canister .what is it ?and can i
get rid of it? i have already pitch the vapor canister

Don't quote me on this but, I think it has something to do with vert-a-pack. I don't think it is really needed. I could be wrong. give it a bit somebody will chime in that remembers for sure if it is a vert-a-pack cannister for shipping purposes. if your not worried about emissions all you need is a fuel and return line. the gas cap should be vented. wish I could help you more, but the 70's were a couple days ago.
