Running rich?

Postby 76 bird » Wed Feb 06, 2013 3:57 pm

I'm guessing the Sunbird is running rich. The last few times I drove it going uphill the car would loose power and stall. Would start right back up but would die again soon after. It would take about 3 tries to make it up a decent sized hill. I also noticed that the exhaust was putting out some decent soot also, enough that it was starting to collect on the bumper.

On small inclines or straight roads no issues.

I have not driven the car since the end of November last year. It is covered up for the winter, but I am getting anxious to get it ready for the spring soon. I dont have a lot of experience with working on carbs

So if it is in fact running rich is it as simple as making the adjustment here?

Thanks

If it still has the stock carb, it was rebuilt at a shop near me. I remember the previous owner saying it still didn't run right. I don't know much about working on carbs, but it sounds like maybe a float adjustment issue?

When I bought it I had the carb rebuilt by my local shop. So that should not be the issue, also new plugs where put in as well as a new fuel pump.
