New set-up not working

I'm just getting around to hooking up my rebuilt sending unit and new Carter pump. It's out of the gas tank and ready to bench test. When I hooked power up to the sending unit, the fuel guage pegged to full even though the float is hanging down in the empty positon. When I cranked the engine over while the pump was submerged in a pail of gas with a hose going to another pail, nothing, no pumping of gas or anything. There has been no changes to the wiring/eletrical except a new coil last fall.

I no not much about wiring electrics but can follow directions pretty well, what should I be looking for. My volt meter says power is going to the wires for the sender/pump. Help please.

Rick

By the symptoms I would say you're missing a ground, but you say you've checked with a meter. It is possible you've blown the fuse, and the voltage you found with the meter is coming through the sender wire.
Wiring is pretty simple:
Blue- pump +
Tan- gauge sender
Black- ground

Thanks Spenser! The Beast lives!! First time around the block in a year or more! It was a disconnected ground wire. The new sender unit appears to be working and the fuel pump seems to be pumping.
Kicking it into gear now for next years Monzaque!

I used Tristarradiators. Here's a link to an old post with before and after pics. Turn around time was less than two weeks if I remember correctly, and they were great to deal with.
