Hi Joe,
For what it's worth, Airtex makes new replacement in-tank fuel pumps for our cars.
You can get through RockAuto.com

Thinking you'll have to drop to the tank anyway as trying to pull through a dead pump might not work.
Unless you're running something with high fuel demand, the stock pump should keep up for ya.
If you go that route, don't forget to prime it.
Just another option.

I put my external pump in the same spot as the high pressure pump for the Cosworth (below the right/rear seat).

Hi Mike,

Was reading this thread, I have 2 dead fuelpumps, was going to replace it with an external pump, but for one car this would be great.
You are talking about this pump are you ?

Will you let me know if this is the correct one, just to be sure before i'll have it ordered and shipping accross the planet :)

Thanks,

Tiemen

Hey Tiemen,

Yes, the 2485 was the replacement pump I found for a 75 Astre.

Mike,

This is great! I actually stopped looking for an intank solution some time ago. Thought there wasn't a plug and play solution, without having to screw around
with pressure regulators and stuff ... Thanks for the tip !!!

No problem.

I'd make sure to get the filter screen sock for it too.
Be sure you prime it too. You can put a brand new one of these in a tank of gas and if pump is dry, it may not pump.
You don't want to run a new one for any duration of time dry.

There's a number of ways to do it, but I installed mine sealed in the tank, clogged the filler hose with a rag, and with the pump plugged in/key on and pump running, the discharge hose in a pail, blow in the tank's vent hose.
This should provide enough feed pressure to get it primed/pumping.

Decided to keep it simple and get the spectra pump and fuel sock I'll worry about using the other pump if I do my v-8 swap thx for all the replies

Oh and the spectra pump comes with all the o rings and stuff like the airtex pump shows but it pumps a lil more

And as far as priming since this pump is a flow thru design, I wouldn't think it needs to be primed. Plus if you hook it up turn the key on then climb under the car to blow in the vent wouldn't it already be primed and flowing by then ??? I'm not flaming , just trying to learn .

Yeah, I've found the pumps are hit or miss.
Some I've done without help, and others need a little kick to get going.
This last one I did needed a little pressure on the inlet side to get it primed & pumping.
I don't think these in tank pumps are really designed to siphon/vacuum very well.

What I meant is engine's not running yet, but key in ON position to supply power to the pump. If the tank is out of the car, but under its mounting location, you can connect the wire plug and access the vent hose/etc from the top. Sorry for the confusion.

I can vouch for the Airtex. I've used them. Direct fit, no issues so far.

Rock auto told me even the airtex has the same half circle pattern to fit the bracket and not the 2 slashes that mine has hmmm do you happen to have a pic of the inlet side of the airtex pump ????

Looked just like the one you have on the left but worked fine with the same seal you have pictured with the factory bracket.

The fuel socks are tight. I think they're supposed to be. I just took some small channel locks and lightly twisted it on.
