Need Fuel Pump for Cosworth with Webers

Postby boones » Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:06 pm

Hi guys, New to vegas, I just bought a 76 Cosworth last night that has been sitting since 2003. The car was switched over to Webers (it looks like a Mr Hutton conversion). The tank was out of the car and is missing the sending unit. I can not find a replacement unit on line. what are my opinions for a sending unit figured someone has tackled this issue I believe the two options are

1. sending unit with in tank pump
2. a basic sending unit with no pump (will use external pump)

You could use a standard Vega sending unit, possibly the Monza sending unit may work also, adapt a sock for pickup or use an in tank standard Vega fuel pump. Your car may still have the high pressure fuel pump which is mounted under the chassis beneath the right rear seat. You can leave it in place and just undo the wiring connector if it hasn't already been done. I use an external fuel pump mounted under the hood for my Webers. By the way, what dash number do you have?

watch the regulator you use with the webers!
I did the return line bypass style fuel regulator so I would not get over pressure.
and cranked it down to 3.5 lbs...
when you turn off the car in the heat, the over pressure returns to the tank!!
not hitting the weber needles with over the 3.5 lbs.

as far as the dip tube use stainless steel and a tank sock for the pickup.

and then use a quality fuel pump...

and quality fuel line!!

and filter right before the webers.
