And made these connections near the distributer. Note the pipe coming up apparently from the Auto transmission which I tied to the vac port on the manifold. The second port on the manifold I reconnected to the main line running over to the vacuum can over on the right. that restored operation of the air box under the dash. Is that hard pipe running down to the AT supposed to tie to the manifold vacuum as I suspected?

Then I hooked up the rest following your diagram above as seen here:

I'm not confident about the connection locations on the Carb. Connection "A" is at bottom center of the carb and I suspect is manifold vacuum not timed vacuum. Both ends of hose "C" were hooked up by the mechanic who barely got the car running - he ran it from that port on the carb to the bottom port on the thermal vacuum switch, but left the other half of the thermal vacuum switch open to atmosphere, so when that switch is open in his configuration that port on the carb is open to atmosphere? Doesn't make sense to me. Thoughts on that one especially are appreciated.
There are still multiple ports on the carb that are capped I assume that's fine,
Where I know I'm still not a factory configuration is this device here:

This is near what I assume is the EGR and the distributer, shot from the let side of the car across the engine for clarity. What is this? It took vacuum at one time - probably teeing off one of the other lines?
Any need for delay valves or check valves? I'm used to putting those in and the lack of them makes me think I'm missing something. There really should be a check valve at the spherical vacuum bottle before the line that runs back under the dash for the HVAC air box right? Otherwise won't the flaps all sag every time I accelerate away from a light?
I've only had the car 36 hours and am making nice progress. I've found my big fuel supply problem and that should be fixed tomorrow when Amazon arrives. I appreciate the help and I'm looking forward to having a fairly functional car soon.
