Battery Tray Location

Postby 77 Spyder » Tue Jul 04, 2006 8:03 pm

My original V8 car had the battery tray on the drivers side of the car. The car I am working on now, was a 4 cylinder car to be converted to a V8. It has a the tray on the passengers side & its slightly turned.

Anyone see the same thing in there cars? I guess I need to find a decent tray & move it to the other side?

It appears the V8 monza had the gas fume canister on the passengers side. I found some pictures of a 77 I used to have, & thats what I see with that one. Not sure if its true with all V8 cars of not. I also had a 80 spyder 4 cylinder car, that car also had the tray on the drivers side.

Now I need to see if I can find a decent used or new one.

I noticed your running an electric fuel pump. Stock pump, or did you find something that will drop in the tank? I have heard the stock pumps won't keep up to a gas hungry small block.

We got the car with that pump.. it has too much pressure and floods the carb out, I think. It had a small fuel leak and when I plugged it the car won't run well now, lol... I'm going to take alook at it and see if there's an internal regulator I can change.

I don't think the stock pump holds up too well.

If you want the brand of this pump I'll check on it for you. It's decently quiet.

I am actually looking for an internal for my car. I have the tank out, so it will be easy anyway.
I am wondering about using a mid 80's F-body pump.

I was a little quick on the last post. I thought that was just a filter on the firewall. I guess the wires on the bottom should have helped me figure it out.

On one of my spyders, I had run a mechanical pump. It cleared the frame mounts fine. I don't hear of many people doing that. The biggest problem I had on that car was the pump would get hot, & sometimes vapor lock on me.

You can use a mid 80s pump. I'm assuming you're still carbureted? If so, I believe you can use one out of a Camaro or Firebird.

I am using an electric in my Vega that's basically the same as the Camaro TPI pump but a bit higher pressure to run with the LT1.

That looks like a Carter pump. I've got one that is barely used I would sell for half price of new.
