Removing rubber nose

Postby NHRA Stk Starfire » Tue Nov 13, 2007 10:53 pm

What is the easiest way to remove the rubber nose on a 75 Starfire. I have removed all the bolts along the backside at the top. I assume there are bolts along the front edge of the fenders also. Does the bumper come off first before the nose and does the headlights need removed or can come out with the nose? May try to get it on the lift again Wednesday so maybe I will see what needs to be removed.

Thanks, Rick

many many bolts to undo to remove the rubber nose
along the top at the join of the fenders etc ,just keep looking you will find them all (around 20 or so ) rubber nose and fibreglass reinforcement can come off as one with headlights still in place
lower bar is a seperate unit

hope that helps

its hard to get off without taking the bumper off, the missing nuts are at the top corners. you get to them from the wheel well, take the liners out, there are 7/16 nuts on studs in the plastic nose, need a long extention

Front bumper/nose is off. Stayed over Wednesday after work and just kept looking/removing bolts/nuts till everything came off. Not to bad on a lift with air tools,

I haven't but I have thought of doing that. Its not that bad of a job if you don't break any bolts.

I've never tried it but do you really have to pull the nose off? Isn't there enough room if you remove the rad?

The only Problemn is the length of the cam,,,, to the cam cover base on front of sbc block then to clear the quad headlight nose center . Removal of the hood lock support inside,,center  Note on single headlight coupe/notch backs with trunk's with grilles that actualy remove should be no problemn but on some Buick, Olds,Pontiac year models the differance in grille, core support's should have a lot of clearance.,,,,, ,On the quad light's Just wanted to know if any one has tried, will have to measure when the radiator and A/C condensor's on mine is out.  8) 8)

In side the fender liners?

Good thing I found this before I got this far
How did you get the out board impact absorber mount bolts out, smashed my hand once so far.

Any hidden bolts/screws for the fenders?
So far I got all the ones on the top and bottom and around the wheel well lip.

The absorbers are held by the frame brackets with the four bolts in the front, & one in the rear. Once those are removed you can take the frame brackets off if you need to. I don't think you can get to all of the frame bolts without taking the absorber out first.

For the fenders theres one bolt under the rubber nose above the headlight. Theres one next to the headlight but I think you can get that one through the headlight opening, but the upper one is under the rubber nose hidden

I was going to take a pic like that, Lanse, but you beat me too it. That's a good shot showing all the bolt holes. Also you can see the rear center bolt hole for the bumper shock.
