Postby joe k » Sun Mar 30, 2008 5:25 pm

Hi I'm new to the board, and hoping for some help. Just got a 76 vega wagon.it needs a hood release cable amoung other things but one thing at a time. Are replacement cables available anywhere? If not what is a good donor car to use and what is the route the cable follows. Are there any hiden pulleys the cable hooks on?

Welcome Joe, Vega hood release cables are not readily available from any normal source. I ocassionally run across a NOS one, but they are very expensive at this point. There are no pulleys, but I do believe there a clip that hold the cable in place. I have seen NOS ones go for over $100. If you need it I can start hunting for you. cjbiagi@yahoo.com

That's nuts when even I can remember them being $30. Not anymore though... guess demand has gone up?!

Heinz is on the right track. There are some places that make cables to your specs. Another option is some auto part stores carry universal cables you cut to lenght, or even go to Wal-Mart and get a bicycle brake cable.

What about lokar? They make some pretty nice looking cables. Besides, that's all it is on this car... no special end, just a cable and sleeve.

Thanks everybody for your quick replys. I know that I'm not putting out the money for a NOS cable, guess I'll hit the junk yards as soon as it warms up around here. I'll get something to fit. THANKS AGAIN.
