74 Vega hood latch removal

How does this bugger come off? I think it's spot welded in,is this a normal thing GM did ?

My 72's original hood had the hinges spot welded on. I scrapped the hood years ago (when these cars were all over the place!).

I believe all of the early cars had the hinges welded to the hood.

Misunderstanding...I'm asking about the latch mechanism that's up on the cowling.

I've got a fiberglass hood and would like to take all the unnecessary parts off.

oops sorry.

now I am really stymied. I replaced my stock hood with a 'glass one years ago. i know I removed the latch mechanism BUT for the life of me I cannot remember how.

Harry,
I removed my latch by drilling out the spot-welds.
