Rear Bumper Mount/Shock Absorber

Postby dragmonza » Sun Mar 21, 2010 3:43 pm

Has anyone taken one of these apart? I assume there is either a spring or oil(?) inside to absorb an impact to the rear bumper? I want to re-use only part of this mount on the drag car.

I believe there is oil in them. I don't think it is under any big pressure, I know if you drill a hole in the chamber the oil will leak out. (Don't ask how I know this  )

in all honesty i would most likely make something a lot lighter than the oem part if it was for a drag car ..in fact i nearly did the same to my street car !

Here is what I discovered Cjbiagi is correct. The units are filled with oil & under a little pressure. Nothing dangerous though. The rear part of the absorber with the stud is a double wall shock with a nylon seal. I will post pictures when I can.
