Has anyone changed their tail lights to a different type?

Postby ROB » Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:22 pm

I have a 76 Vega, and I really hate the grill and tail lights. Well, I bought all of the stuff to convert the front to an Astre, now I need to work on the tail lights. I could change to 71-73 style, 74-75 style, Astre style, what ever. Anyone done this before? Could shed some tips on how to, or give suggestions for possible ideas?

Rob

I should add that I've seen Nix's Cuda tail lights (I think it was Cuda) on his project journal, but I would like to avoid some of those harder to find items.

I saw some Chevelle taillights the flat 74-75, also the 67-68 camaro style.

They looked pretty good.

For a suggestion on a possible idea, here is an excerpt from my blog of my 76 Vega GT in the h-body garage - garage_vehicle.php?mode=view_vehicle&VID=89:
I also don't like the looks of the 76 taillights, so I am working on replacing them with either 3rd-gen or 4th-gen Corvette rounds. It looks like it is possible to fabricate a panel that will bolt in place of the existing Vega taillight and allow a round light to be mounted in that panel.

Has anyone done 67-68 Camaro style? I've been really thinking on this one, and it sounds good. Any pics?

You mean 'look' good. :)
Not yet. I have both 67 and 68 taillight assembies. I think the 68, with its separated lights, would look best on the Vega.

I am thinking of putting them on my 76 Skyhawk 'custom' using modified a Camaro taillight panel with the non RS 67 lights. Putting the reverse clear lenses to the outside and using them as turn signals with an amber LED bulb in there. Someday.

I put 72 Cuda tail lights, with a modified 72 Camaro tail panel, the Chrysler panel was over 500$, the camaro one was less than 100 shipped.
