monza roof re-skin

Postby wascobi » Tue Feb 08, 2011 12:31 am

these factory sunroofs are a pain in the arse! no rubber seal available. no headliner or handle parts. sigh. thinking of re-skinning the roof to get rid of it. not like you can look through it all the time or escape through it incase of a water landing!

Maybe go to a sunroof place and get a new, slightly larger, aftermarket one installed. Cant be any more than roof re-skin.

Marco has a good idea, if you like the moonroof look. Or you could install one yourself. Be sure to NOT use any type of saw, though. Nibblers are great or a side grinder, but NOT a saw. Saws stretch the metal when cutting and will warp the crap out of the metal and OMG it will be an awful sight. I customized vans back in the late 80s so I saw my share of home installs. NOT pretty.

Whichever way you go, I wish you the best of luck.

Good luck and have fun.

cheers jer

Exactly what sun roof do you have? Is it a Vista Vent or the other one? I might be able to locate a seal............

found my build sheet yesterday while changing a door handle. AD3 roof vent. gonna take it apart and see if I can do a better job of sealing it. the current silicone job looks like it was trowelled on, and its starting to slightly leak. sure like that headliner!!
