rubber molding - to replace chrome molding

Postby miragezx1 » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:42 am

I am thinking about replacing the front windshield chrome/stainless molding and also rear hatchback molding to a rubber molding like the newer cars. Has anyone done this? If so- with what?

If you are doing this because they are not in good condition I can strip and polish them for you. If you are just doing do as a custom mod then I am not sure what you could use there.

I had my rear window done. Looks great. The glass guy had the stuff.

Thanks for that reply. It is exactly what I was looking for.
It looks more modern than the stainless. If I was going to keep the car original then I would keep the stainless trim/molding on it but I like your Vega look better.

That rubber molding does look good.
However, for a second gen H-body: Monza, Sunbird, Skyhawk, Starfire. It is not as easy because there is a depression at all four corners of the windshield that the molding covers up. Take a look at my pic with the chrome molding removed. I assume it is the same with the hatch, but have not taken the molding off there yet. I think the depression is a little too thick just to slap some bondo in to cover up, you would have to add some metal in there. Also, that area is not flat, it has multiple curves to it. I am just going to re-paint the original molding on mine.
