inner fender well question

Postby 76Vega » Sat May 19, 2012 2:31 pm

I need to replace the complete front end on my 72 vega and i was wondering how far back does the inner fenders run into the fire wall, as i'm planning on drilling out all the spot welds and replacing the inner fenders and rad support(but leaving the control arm supports and frame) and putting the rust free one from my 76 on it.
Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if by removing the area in blue(but drilling out the spot welds) can i get access to the inner spot welds. as i need take them off the 76 first that might answer some of my questions, but i would like to know if i'm barking up the right tree here.

I have an NOS inner fender panel, and it includes the oval opening of the floor vent in the side panel of the interior. In other words, it goes back to the front of the door.

i was afraid of that, this means i need to remove the whole outer vent housing completely and drill everything out all the way back, guess i need to get some more spot weld cutter bits.

Thanks for the info, now i know what i'm up against, Much appreciated.

A little off topic but I had a heck of a time trying to use those spot weld cutters till somebody mentioned to drill the pilot hole so the little shaft would fit in. The darn cutter worked great after that.

I use a punch to center the tip so it doesn't walk, but i got 2 panels off and my pilot broke so now i'm waiting on my tool guy to get some new ones for me. So i didn't get to far with removing the front end.
I can't believe how many spot welds there are in one little panel, it's almost to many.
