75 Hood latch

Postby pcguy » Tue Sep 04, 2012 7:03 pm

Anyone have a photo of the lower (read as not the hood) part of the hood latch on a 75. Bought this vega viewtopic.php?f=8&t=37872 (pics in post 6) and trying to rehab it. I think the latch is broken at the firewall and need to see what it's supposed to look like.

Maybe I'll just go for some spring loaded pins - thoughts????

I looked at your pics and that is way too nice of a car not to do it right. I don't know if the latch is broken or it could possibly be the hood release cable that is broke? Either way you need to fix this car properly in my opinion. If needed I should be able to get whatever you need. NOS hood release cables are very rare and a bit pricey but I do have one left that I have been holding on to. I also know where a NOS latch assembly is. Don't I already have the hood striker ordered for you?

Hey Clyde, I found the cable in a box that came with the car. Can't be sure if I can fix the original hood latch until I see a closeup photo of a working unit. I believe that part of the mechanism is broken/missing???

More to follow,

Nick, I received the NOS hood striker I ordered for you. How are you making out on the rest of the latch issues?

Never got a reponse to the pic request. It's in (been in for too long) for paint touchup and striping, really leaning toward hood pins.

It's not the part that is connected to the hood - that's the part that is missing. The part I need a pic of is the part that is welded to the firewall - just under the flat surface where the hook that you have is bolted to the hood. It appears that the mechanism is broken and it doesn't look like it's an easy fix???

I think I know what you are talking about, and I think my Vega has the same problem. Mine looks to have been rewelded at some point. I can take some pics this weekend, that's the next time I'll be at the shop where the car is.

Oh ok, I sent you a pic of the striker attached to the hood that I have. I don"t have a Vega to take a picture of the latch. I believe I can get a NOS latch mechanism for you if that's what you need.
