Drip rail trim

Postby 1100kaw2 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 9:07 pm

My 72 hatch had chrome plastic trim on drip rail when I started tearing it down. It was glued on quite well, so it cracked taking it off. Looked similar to the universal door edge guard we see today but wider. It was like chromed plastic, not the rubbery edge guard stuff
I feel it was prob. original but I don't know for sure.
I think I would like to put chrome back on it when paint work finished.
Anyone know if this was original?
Can I get this stuff any more? or will I have to settle for edge guard if I want chrome?

Yes, it is original. The original is 1/2 inches, but good luck finding the exact size. The best you can get now is 7/16 inches. It is close enough and still looks good.

7/16" edge molding is starting to get hard to find now as well, but here is a place that has it:

Door edge molding, drip rail molding. Same thing. I have seen 50 foot rolls show up on ebay every now and then for less than half this price. Be patient!

There is a guy in the CVOA that sells it. Not sure if its original. He runs an ad in the CVOA national magazine.

The only Vega's that only had a little rust were the ones still on the assembly line.
