How to remove outer weatherstrip on door

Postby 1975monza2+2 » Wed Jan 20, 2016 4:23 pm

I wanted to remove a Monza outer weatherstrip on the door but couldn't get to a couple of the screws. The window will not roll down far enough. I couldn't remove the bottom travel stop because it's welded to the door. How do you remove the outer weatherstrip on these cars? Anybody have a factory shop manual? How does it say to remove the weatherstrip?

Thanks for the link. I'm surprised nobody mentioned removing the bottom stop by drilling out the spot welds. Then reinstall with bolts or pop rivets. Similar to replacing a window regulator. I noticed they also are spot welded. I still wonder what procedure is shown in a factory shop manual. Do you have a shop manual?

I was able to remove the screws with a short Phillips head bit. Like Clyde suggested in the link you provided. :th: First I removed the front window channel (held by three bolts) which allowed me to scoot the window forward and out of the rear channel. Then I was able to push the window inboard enough to use the Phillips bit. I used a piece of tape to protect the window and pressed the window against the bit while turning with a wrench.
