Moving '73 Front Bumper In

I'm thinking about moving the front bumper in on my car to get rid of the filler panel.
I've done some searching and found these two threads:
http://forums.h-body.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24990
http://forums.h-body.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43172

One seems to indicate i can just cut down the brackets to match 71-72 length to accomplish or buy 71-72 brackets (can't find any)
The other seems to indicate it's a lot more work and will leave a gaping hole that won't look good.

Has anyone still around the site done this? Do you have any photos of the process or before and after.

Any info would help me decide if i want to do it or if i'll just be opening a can of worms.

Thanks!

I moved the front bumper in on my 73. The bumper brackets have 3 bolt mounting due to stricter bumper laws. The 71 & 2 have two bolt mounting. I don't know if two bolt mounts line up with your 3 bolt pattern. One of your 73 bracket holes lines up pretty good to the bottom exsistiing holes and you have to drill the upper one. That upper hole ends up over a web so you'll have to weld a heavy washer in. I trimmed the rest of the bracket off on the rear. Just made new out side corner brackets from 1 x 1/8" steel strap.

Hmm..seems like more effort than i really want to expend. Maybe a future project one day.
Thanks for your reply. :th:
