Stock Vega Pic. needed

Postby E.Groscup » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:21 pm

Greetings all, I am having a problem smogging my 77 Vega Kammback. All of the pulse air system is missing. Could someone please post or email a pic. of this on a car? Anyone have one on an engine that was removed or is being parted? thanks, Erik

I have 2 air pumps that came from 1980 231 V6 motors.

If this is what you need let me know.

Not meaning to hi-jack here, does anyone know where I can find info on what emission devices came on what models/engines? I'm not talking about the under hood sticker.

Pulse Air

Postby E.Groscup » Sun Jan 20, 2008 2:13 pm

Marco, thanks for the offer, but the pulse air system on the 76/77 Vega 2300 didn't use a pump. It is a check valve(s)? that let a little fresh air into the exhaust whenever there was a negative pressure in that exhaust port. Spyder, my smog lady here has a book that would have the info you need. Do you have a specific car that you need info for? I can probably get copys of individual pages if need be, otherwise I can get the isbn# of the book and there must be other copys out there. I am attaching the page out of my shop manual that sort of shows what I am looking for. Erik

I was kind of just wanting to know what came with or without AIR pumps, what if any came without EGR or cats, etc. I know my 79 Spyder with 305 came without an AIR pump. Most vehicles sold after 75 had cats. I'm sure all H-bodies did. I'd love to find an underhood sticker that says non-catylist.

Erik, I know what it looks like, but I'm not sure where I can get you a picture. It had a block with four venturi tubes that look like horns coming off the manifold. No air pump-- the venturi created the pressure for the pulse air.

I had a Chevette with the same system as that. Might be another source for those parts.

Not that this will help anybody but,

they put that thing on the 1980 2.5 Iron Dukes too.

The box was a little thicker as I recall, but otherwise the same.

Might be easier for Erik to find in the junkyard. I wonder what other models came with them?

You guys are right. I remember also seeing something like these installed on the Chevettes and the iron dukes in the later 70's . Can't be the same part number with the same length tubes, could they?
