Work is going slow on mine. I am working two jobs which keep me busy so I am only able to work weekends on it (if something else around the house doesn't need attention). I have decided in order to do it right, I need an air compressor and media blaster. Also have to get a mig welder to patch up the battery box, and a few other minor rust holes. The more I work on it though, I am pretty happy as it is very solid compared to other Vegas I have seen. The floor pans are solid, the trunk pan is solid with the exception of a hole the size of a silver dollar. The 'C' pillars are gone. Not sure what to do on that but fabricate them.

Hood is easier to replace than repair, and the rear hatch is iffy. Would like to get a replacement if I can find one.

Nothing worth a picture at this time, but hopefully this summer I will have made some progress worth showing.

The reminants of the Nomad stickers are slightly visible on the front, back and B pillars. Only one tailgate spear is left (totally shot) and the side moulding is in the back, but not worth saving.

I am also missing one trim piece on the bottom drivers side A pillar where the vinyl top was mounted. It might be easy to make if I can find a trim piece of the same size.

Going pretty much original except the color. Probably will do orange or red with white stripe(s). I will also do the interior in black. I think this tan color is one of the most hideous colors on any car. Almost looks like a military car.

It is hard to believe that thousands of these were made as they appear to be more rare than the Cosworth now.

I am in the California desert and was offered a Vega Nomad for $1000. It has a new engine and looked pretty straight with very little rust, but still needs work. Since I have never heard of a Vega Nomad I was a little skeptical, but after reading all the posts I am now a believer. Is this a good buy, is it worth anything restored, are the decals available? Also, can anyone explain the difference in detail about the B pillar, is the Nomad difference the door or the B pillar?

1000 seams like a very good price if its complete and clean , the pieces were added to a regular wagon to give it the look of the tri-5 nomads

nothing is avaliable new as replacement parts , unless you run into some NOS parts

So what do people do about the Nomad decals, that by now are almost all deteriorated. Can any station wagon be turned into a Nomad by adding the decals, chrome on the back and B pillar treatment? Is there any thing on the VIN plate indicating a Nomad. Sorry for all the questions but I need to know some of these things before I start working on something that isn't real. I can send pictures if I know your E address or if there is another way on the site without throwing it out to everyone.

you would need to have a someone copy the NOMAD decals , as far as i know if you had all the nomad pieces you could put them on a regular wagon

not sure if the VIN shows the nomad trim option or not

The decals looks kinda cheesy. Here is a link to a repro style that was used on early 70's Nomads. The script is the same. Only problem is that they are not metal.

http://einstyn.com/einstyn-wagon-parts.htm

You can look for the real metal ones buy they are hard to find. I have a full set (took about a year to find all four) for my Nomad that I am going to restore as soon as I am done with my 72 GT.

Wow, better late than never. The 1976 was indeed a Bicennial edition. They were supplied, according to the Wikipedia listing, as a special issue, one to a dealership. I haven't found any sold east of the Mississippi. I found mine in Nevada and it already had a 350 V-8 in it. I like the car and especially it's relative uniqueness. The special body panels were manufactured by an aftyermarket company listed on a disclamer plate in the passenger side door sill. The also had white vinal tops. Any other information I may add, let me know.

Vegadad,
Beg to differ with you but the Nomad was only a "Special Edition" as was the previous "Millionth Vega" and the "Spirit of America Vega" Editions. It just happened to be built during the bicentennial year. The closest a Nomad Edition comes to bicentennial is if it was equipped with the "Heritage Edition" interior RPO-07H like the one Spyderman1977 discovered and photo documented in a Texas junkyard.

Found this and had to share. Brand new Nomad and Cosworth Vega on the lot at Mark Christopher Chevrolet in Ontario, CA.

I am usually a fan of bright colors on the Vega such as orange, yellow, lime green, but that gloss black on the Nomad fits it well.
