1976-1980 Monza/Starfire Passenger Option Shipments Reports

Postby stage169 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 2:01 am

75 to 80 for the Starfire and 76-80 for the Monza. I have just scratched the surface there is a ton of info. Only thing is there are no combined RPO totals. Some of the Starfire %'s don't work out either. Cosworth Vega production numbers also (that might not be a new thing?). I do have a little bit of the 75 Monza info also.

Some off the top.

1976

Z01 Spyder equipment: 2,333 (Z02 is not there for 76)

N77 Aluminum wheels: 2,430

LG3 305 2bbl V8: 2,362

LV1 4.3 litre 2bbl V8: 15,000

UR1 Econominder gauge: 933 (I don't think I've seen this yet)

1977

Z01 Spyder equipment: 7,855

Z02 Spyder Appearance Package: 7,089 (do you subtract to get the Spyder cars without the decals?)

LG3 305 2bbl V8: 24,681

N77 Aluminum wheels: 1,768

CF4 Sky Roof: 370

UR1 Econominder gauge: 333

1978

Z01 Spyder equipment: 7,381

Z02 Spyder Appearance Package: 6,391

N77 Aluminum wheels: 1,537

UR1 Econominder gauge: 2

LG3 305 2bbl V8: 9,478

1979

Z01 Spyder equipment: 9,679

Z02 Spyder Appearance Package: 8,670

N77 Aluminum wheels: 683

LG3 305 2bbl V8: 8,180

1980

Z29 Spyder Equipment Package: 7,589

Starfire - it shows the % of GT's made. It gives some numbers for the Firenza and also the %'s.

1975 GT 4.6% of 31,081

1976 GT 26.4% of 29,159

1977 GT 27.6% of 19,091

1978 GT 18.5% of 17,321

1979 GT 11.5% of 24,172

1980 GT 9.2% of 8,246

Firenza

1978 2,523

1979 3,873

1980 13.5% of 8,246

Most of the Monza stuff has Page. 1 (except for 79) and on that page for 1980 the total for Monza's is hand written in "*see 1981 for total" Wasn't there some deal about them selling made in 80 but calling them 81 back in the day?

This stuff needs compiled there are just to many pages for me to scan. If you want to Know about Chevette's, Citations, Camaro, Malibu, Monte Carlo and El Camino I can do that also. LOL :bored:

But if you have some RPO's you want checked out I can do that easy enough. I will scan some pages and anything that somebody wants to see the Chevrolet or Oldsmobile name on it.

Bryan I'll try and copy them at work (over 250 pages just for Chevy) and I'll also try to list all the RPO's that are not on your site.

Marco, let me know what RPO codes I missed on your car.

G80 posi: 5,201

MM4 4spd: 47,075

75 Light Red: 11,010

CD4 Intermittent Windshield Wipers: 9,412

62B Tan Cloth: 2,521

AN1 Adjustable Drivers seat: 5,641

N33 tilt wheel: 28,210

UE8 Digital clock: 2,728

ZJ9 Aux. lighting: 11,563

BS1 quiet sound group: 9,172

Wow, awesome info.

Your soon to be the info king, if this keeps up.

On 76 spyder.... The STOC lists 2,339. I'll assume they got the last number wrong?

Also, no Z02 info is listed because there was no Z02 (decals) in' 76.

And to answer the question...yes, just subtract the 2 totals to get the Z01 only cars, 77 and up.

On the 1981 deal, I think they mean the extended production that went 3 months into the 81 model year production.

So the totals might be on some 1981 page.

The numbers you've provided all match up to my 2 sources....1 private source who had a book from GM. and the STOC. published 1990.

Getting the 1981 totals would be cool, because then we'd at least know the Vin # of the last one produced.

I wonder what model was the very last one off the production line...A sunbird or a monza?

Marco its possible some numbers maybe off because the copies sent to me are hard to read in spots. I've noticed several Buick numbers off by some also so I don't know. I was hoping to see Ken Mahoy's car on this stuff do you know his year and the glass option for the Monza roof?

I just looked through the 1977 Monza info and found the Mirage.

So Sweet.

Hard to believe 10% of all 1R07 models were Mirages...So it actually was relatively popular with the Monza sport crowd.

I am going to start a webpage called the "H body information resource group."

You and Bryan Mcready are welcome co- contributors. Its going to be dedicated to hard facts, like production data and

the build blueprints - of which I have 1978 chevy, you guys have all years buick correct?

Also links to Bryans RPO listing site- and a question /answer section or FAQ.

If we can get all this compiled information together, we will collectively know more about the H body than even GM.

I think we collectively already know more than GM, lol.

There must be some figures for 1981, as Marco has stated, since the Spyder figure for 1980 relates to what I have, but my source says that it does not include models made in the extended production run late in 1980, so we would need the 81 data, if you can get it.

Brian, I want it all, lol, everything you can get/copy/steal/etc.

Marco is, again, bang on (as usual???) about the Z01 and 02 Spyders. You could order the Z01 equipment seperately, but if you ordered the Z02 (appearance), you had to ALSO get the Z01 package first.

I've seen 1 pic of the econominder in my time, I think it was in a Starfire, but it was located on the dash where the little electric clock is normally placed when you ordered the full guage package (no the clock on the dashpad (passenger side).

I'm surprised the N77 alloy wheels were not more popular, i figured that total would be a lot more. no wonder there are no centre caps floating around any longer, lol.

Brian
Did you get all this info from Sloan or did you find it elsewhere. Where were you a decade or 3 ago with this info, hehe.

Just your local GM Heritage. When I called it took them less than a couple hours to tell me what they had. I didn't even have to explain what I wanted about five words and she said "Option breakdown production totals" and I said "Uh huh" I'll have to call back on 81 and I just got started a little over a decade ago :D .

I love it! Factual info adds another dimension to what we all enjoy about these cars. I don't have all the years of anything (except the sales catalogs) but I'm hoping to get some additional stuff from Sloan soon. There will be a lot of work I will certainly contribute what I can.

A few more RPO's that aren't on the list (yet :D )

I wonder what those right and left rule of road headlamps mean? Something to do with right/left hand drive obviously, but what, and why only 1 left hand drive option made???

The UY6 is a repeat of UY8 - are you sure it wasn't just a misread or hard to read part of the document?

And the inflator stowaway spare delete, sounds like they had a delete code for the stowaway spare tire and the stowaway spare tire inflator as well. I figured they would be together. So you could delete the spare tire and keep the inflator? LOL. Only 35 inflator deletions, but 5,380 stowaway deletions.

I'm really confused by the 3-number RPO Codes (do we know they are RPO Codes though???). Every code I have ever found that had to do with colours was 2 numbers followed by a letter. The 2 numbers signified the colour, while the letter signified the option that was coloured (exterior paint, body striping decals, interior colours, vinyl roof tops, etc).

I'm sooooooooooooooooo confused, yet sooooo want to see more.

I'm with you on all of it and I'm sure that I misread the list (I'll check).

On the three number codes I think they are sales codes. George Z. (GM Canada) called them sales codes after looking at the Domestic & Export car report I sent him. I think on page 9 of the NightHawk and Free Spirit post I show documents from the Buick Vehicle Ordering Guide and a Buick Advance Information book. It breaks interior/exterior down on the availability of options. I hope you can see it maybe its the Vista thing again? It tells more than this but here is a breakdown.

111 Blue and Black = 24B cloth & vinyl

115 White and Black = 11B cloth & vinyl (this one is a Accent-a-color also, black dash, carpet..)

119 Red and Black = 71B cloth & vinyl

216 Tan =64N vinyl

218 Black = 19N vinyl

219 Red = 71N vinyl

All of these next ones are WHITE vinyl seats with Accent-a-color interior items (dash, steering wheel, carpet, kickpads...)

411 Blue = 02N

413 Aqua = 03N

414 Orange = 08N

416 Tan = 06N

418 Black = 11N

419 Red = 07N

My guess on the headlight rule of road thing...

see all the ribs on the glass in your current headlight? These make it so the light shines bright in some directions but dimmer in others.

So in Right hand drive cars, properly aimed headlights, will light up the roadway straight ahead and to the right.

The left being dimmed, to help oncomming drivers.

And vice versa for LHD cars.

Surprising that only 1 set was sold! that must have been a profitable deal, lol.

And I remember seeing 3 digit rpo codes for the seats, in a book. It had all the codes for the leather seats.

Bryan I did read it wrong (UY6 should be UY8).

Marco the code stuff still confuses me. Say if 416 is an RPO code is 06N a UPC code?

The Buick Domestic & Export Car Report starts with RPO's and then gives codes for some pairs of RPO's and/or grouping of RPO's. I want to figure that out!

Here are some scans of the latest batch of Reports. Brian

You have listed a total of 7,589 1980 spiders am wondering about the 1981 production # for spiders perhaps I'm jumping the gun but I have one produced in 07 of 1980 according to Dougs decoding. So is this one included in the 80's totals or if there is a different total for 1981 produced spiders.

24,589 total SkyHawks according to the Standard Catalog of Buick. Sloan last week said they could not find a book with the reports for this year. Maybe they will along with the 79 I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Why do you ask?

Len, Marco has showed me that the end of production for a model year is the third week of August. These reports were made the end of August so I would think yours would be included with the 80 totals.
