Ok so I just bought this two owner car. They say its a spider, has the round emblems and "spyder" on the fenders. No other sticker or otherwise to indicate its a spyder. Here is what it says dots included.
Maybe you can help.

Can't totally tell the authenticity of the "spyder" package. I thought it should still have an "02" after the dot's but I could be mistaken. Look for a buildsheet behind the drivers side door panel. You can find it many times by removing the arm rest, and popping one of the fasteners off at the bottom of the door panel and fishing your hand up.

That would say for sure. Does your monza have a rear spoiler?

What can be told is that your car was built during the second week May of 1979. "051B is more likely 05B"
The 118,553th monza for 1979.
Black interior, White exterior. "L" = some option like Sunroof...Can't remember off the top of my head.

Production sequence code = the 176th Day.. In line at #7432

Yup your right about the 05B my bad. No other codes after the dots just the rivet. It doesnt have any of the spoilers, no power steering it is white ext and black int. Doesnt look like its ever been repainted. Ive never seen a stripped of options spyder. I will check for a build sheet in the next day or two.
Just kinda strange....

Well.. as far as the actual spyder package, you have possible whats known as a "Z01 only" spyder.

It took Suspension option Z01 and Decal option Z02 to make a full spyder package. But some customers wanted to go fast goodies without the decals, so they only got Z01. (you couldnt get Z02 alone, only Z01)..

Those are much more rare, something like 1010 made for 1979. Your's has some possibility of being one of these, since it has the rare side spyder emblems, which only came on "Z01 only" models .. (have any pics?).

If the rear spoiler wasn't ordered (or deleted) (was pretty sure Z01 included spoilers but memory get's foggy over time...it's in my notes somewhere) Then not only wouldn't your car have one, but that would eliminate the "02" code from your trim tag as well, since that code was for the fisher body guys to drill the holes for the spoiler.

But it does have one extra dot, indicating some option installed. Sounds like you have a Z01 spyder on your hand's. Back then it was possible to add and delete most every option at your will.. So stripped down spyder's aren't out of the question. I bet allot of customers did that to save weight, and get a spyder for a more reasonable price... Also a dealership could have ordered the car to advertise it at a the cheapest price in town get customer's into the dealership.

Hi, I purchased a 75 Monza towne coupe last summer here in northern cal. it has the factory 5.7 v8 which is the main reason I bought it along with it is totally rust free. I've always wanted a v8 vega, finding this car with the factory v8 will work for me. The door sticker says 4/75, the body tag seems to have a lot of info. The car is orange with a black vinyl top and has a saddle/camel? interior. I found half of the build sheet under the driver seat. Car came from York Chevrolet, Encino calif, built at southgate
