7-80 would still be a 1980 model. Usually anything made after September will be the next model year but I've seen cars built in August titled as the next year. Your car may be pretty close to the end since there were no 81 models built.

There were Monza and Sunbirds produced in an "extended" model run which would have ran into the fall of 1980, but I don't beleive it would have gone as far as into 1981. These extended model run cars, as far as I know, were VIN titled as 1980s, not 1981 models.

My black 80 Spyder was produced in August of '80 and is VIn Titled as an 80.

I think Marco needs to chime in here, he may have the definitive answer.

Hey cool I got a tag here, from a monza made 5 production days later during 07B

(Yours was made on cycle day 209, mine was 214) The 09 in the lower right area tells me this.

The body number is 247236, some 2,956 bodies after yours (may have included Vans that lordstown also made, BUT, judging by the lower numbers this year, maybe not. (ex. 1978 was 480,000 bodies total!!)

A = 1980
7= lordstown
244280 body number or vin number
62J interior (tan?)
19l 19u black paint
54A option code..sunroof? a/c?
A51 bucket seats
B 29 some type of option code. (was this a spyder? if so there's the '29' from Z29)
09-8713 cycle day - spot in final assembly line.

Do you have a buildsheet???

Now THAT is what I should have done with all the H-Bodies I've looked at in yards over the years, taken Trim Tags, and more trim tags, and even more.

Here is my 80 Spyder's Tag

B29 is '80's code for Spyder.

What were the total's for 1980?

Marco
54A is gold stripe, or the gold/white/bright orange 1979 Spyder decals, or in the case of my '80 Spyder, the gold/gold/black Spyder decal package I had on my car. I've been able to decode this far ...

A - 1980
08E - August, 5th week of production - Aug 25-29
1HR07 - Monza Sport Hatchback
7 - Lordstown, OH production
269635 - Production Sequence
62V - Camel Rattan Grain Vinyl Interior
19L & 19U - Black Paint
54V - Lt Gold/Dk Gold/Black Spyder Decals
L - ???
A51 - Front Bucket Seats
B29 - ??? (no RPO Code that I know of)
50 9757 - According to Marco in previous post, spot in final assembly line (not sure what numbers represent though)

Marco
So how do they solve these Trim Tag questions ...

For example, August 1980 (I found this while I was looking up the 08E on my Trim Tag)
The 1st week of August in 1980 only included the 1st (Friday) so would the the 4th week of July only include the production days of July 28-31 and August week #1 production would just include 1 day??? ... Or does the 1st week of the production month mean the 1st week that includes all days of that month? If that is the case than 08E can't be the 5th week of August, since there isn't one.

Are you as confused as I am at present???

15L & 15U - Silver paint

08E - its the E...the switchover was usually in Week D. Check the 1980 total, I bet your sequence number is higher...(that is the vin number correct?) (I dont have a build sheet to clarify that on the '80's)

B29 - I believe the '29' part of it is definitely denoting the Z29 option. Just the same as how the earlier tags denoted Z02. with 02BLK. It was there to tell fisher body to do some extra stuff.
What will have to be seen by comparing trim tags from other 1980 color combo's is if the 'B' changes. Possibly each decal color had a letter? Maybe not though, since right up above it indicates the decal color with the 54A code.

L- Lacquer Paint

The 50-9757 this works like this - the first 2 numbers count up the production cycle day from 1 to about 244.
everytime it gets to 99 it resets. so the very last production day of a 244 day cycle would read 44- xxxx

xxxx was a point at which the vehicle enters the final assembly line.. Yours was locked into slot 9757. Once locked in sequence it could not leave the line until the very end.
Order 9757 was broadcast throughout the plant, and carts of parts were set up to be trucked to assembly line stations with all the parts orders set up consecutively so the worker could grab a white spoiler for a white car (9757), then a blue spoiler for a blue car (9758) and so on and so forth. This made it possible to build any model at any time.

Here's a buildsheet tidbit...the big 4 digit number stamped into the top lefthand corner of the buildsheet was also written in wax pencil where the rear license plate goes. Only 78 and 79 sheets have the number there.
