So how do they solve these Trim Tag questions ...

For example, August 1980 (I found this while I was looking up the 08E on my Trim Tag)
The 1st week of August in 1980 only included the 1st (Friday) so would the the 4th week of July only include the production days of July 28-31 and August week #1 production would just include 1 day??? ... Or does the 1st week of the production month mean the 1st week that includes all days of that month? If that is the case than 08E can't be the 5th week of August, since there isn't one.

Are you as confused as I am at present???

Bryan, in these cases I pray for a build sheet, as it has the exact date that yours schedule day was.

It should say 8-26 or something like that.

Now, although I'm not sure of exactly how they split date codes up between wierd months like that, but I'd venture to guess that there was either no 08A, Or that 1st Friday (8/01) was stamped 08A.
If not they just may have called it 07E then trucked on into 08B that following monday.

That puts 08E From the 25th to the 29th

The model year changeover was 08D for 78 and 79.

Yes, that is the last part of my VIN# - 269635 and since we have 1980 production at 169,418 then I guess my car was the 217th car into the extended model run of 1980 ... RIGHT??? LOL

And yes, I do have the buildsheet and it states 08-29, so there I go, My Spyder was built August 29, 1980, very cool.

And my Road Hawk was built June 7, 1979. I'm posative I collected the Trim Tags from 2 of the 3 part's Road Hawks that I had in my posession. Now I really want to dig them up and compare to what I have.

COOOOOOOL!

Its cool to have some insight into the extended production. Looks like there was no fuss or anything unusual, the ticker kept ticking past 244 days and just counted right through.

I have tag from a 1979 spyder built a few weeks after the roadhawk, in sequence 0666, lol.

Marco
I have the GM Canada documents for a 1980 Road Hawk I sold to Tony (in Whitby, ON) so I don't have access to the trim tag ... yet. But it was built November 26, 1979. How would that read on the trim tag then ... 11D???

I was hoping my old White 1980 Spyder was also a late production model but my facts equal my recollection. It was built May13, 1980.

I suspect the B in front of the 29 is a seperate thing. Just like my Road Hawk only has the 43 part of the Y43 code, I'll bet the 29 is just the last part of the Z29 code (like you suggested Marco) so I'm thinking the B has to do with something totally different. Maybe it is a Monza thing???

Marco re the different style body tags I noticed your 80 also is different and it looks like you mighthave one or two more in your collection. I wondering if this has something to do with late production times. As the tags would have to been applied at time of production with the options for that particular car. It almost appears that G.M. ran out of the Body by Fisher tags And made there own as the cars were assembled ?
Just a simple thought about "L" on the body tag could it signify Lordstown ??????
What do you guys think

My Mirage doesn't have a "Body by Fisher" tag, or was that something that was only on the later cars?

What will tell us is a few different trim tags from some different color spyders.

The L for lordstown is a great guess, but its already noted with the number 7.

I'll make a post describing the trim tag changes.

Each plant used there own style tag. See my next post for St. Therese style.
Lordstown, updated the tags slightly in 05/1978, then again in 1980 the tags were simplified.

For the most part the trim tag was applied after the body shell assembly was approved for final assembly and just before the paint booths, to keep track of the body as the paperwork was stripped away.

True, but the information on them is similar.

the 053-307 is the same plant tracking number deal as the xx-xxxx on Lordstown tags

These tags may have had decal codes on them as well for spyders...anyone have a factory 77 spyder tag they can provide?

Your tags has no extra codes, but that makes sense since your car left the plant as a basic white shell ready to receive the mirage stuff over in Michigan.

It was still a body by fisher tag....St Theres just didnt stamp it on there tags.

That was part of the mid year change to lordstown tags in '78...the 'body by fisher' certification was removed.

If I'm not mistaken, it was moved to the door jamb sticker.

That looks like a plastic trim tag from a Canadian-built H-Body. My Canadian-built Sunbird has a similar looking tag on it.

I think they seem plastic, but they are metal.

Although, I'll have to take a close look at the most modern ones from Lordstown.
