Millionth Edition Vegas

Postby CRCRFT78 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:36 pm

Can someone tell me how to verify a Millionth Edition Vega. Vin/trim tag #s? I've been looking to buy a Vega for sometime and one has popped up for sale. A project but I'd hate to lose out on it.

All the Millionth Vegas were paint orange with a white stripe on the hood and Hatch lid and they all had a Millionth decal on the outside door handle and were the 73 Hatchback Model.

Is there a spefic way to tell if its a real or fake other than the color and door handle emblem? Are they all GTs? Are they worth more than a regular GT? Whats a decent roller worth?

I seriously doubt there is going to me much of a monetary difference. Maybe if was actually "THE MILLIONTH" Vega it would be something but since there were obviously many "millionth Vega's" it was more of a marketing thing.

If you removed the seat backs or some other place where the build sheet might be, it might be listed there somehow.

Worth more? If so, probably about $100 or $200 dollars more than a regular '73 GT. But that's just me. There's no following for these or any reproduction parts.... it would have to be practically pristine to be worth anything to someone in the know.

Do a search .... there's some pics on here of them.

i remember a few years back that there was a time that next to a cosworth a millionth vega was the second most sought after from a collector's standpoint. granted there was a run of copies made commemorating the actual millionth vega and all had orange paint with a white stripe, the word millionth or millionth vega on the door handle, and the orange carpet interior. i think the rest was white but im not sure. im sure that some where there is probably an rpo code for the millionth vega but you probably would only find it on the build sheet for the car. i dont know if the car would have had a special listing on the cowl tag or not.

The value in a Millionth Vega is that it is the more desirable early 71-73 Vega.
I recall about a year or two ago there were several stock, original/restored early Vega.Vega GTs for sale - we tracked them here in the forum on h-body.org. One went for about $8,000 and others in the $4,000-$6,000 range. I think.

So, a low-mileage or restored Millionth Vega in extremely good condition is worth not much more than these prices. That's the absolute high-end considering the economy today. The low end is as low as free or even negative territory - you get paid to take it away.

As I have said many times, rare does not necessarily mean desirable - in the overall automotive marketplace. You will never see one of these on one of those auction TV shows. Nor as an 'extreme makeover' candidate on TV or in a magazine.

But, are these cool cars? Absolutely. 8) Most people just don't know what we know here on the h-body forum.

Good luck on your purchase. Give a fair price to the seller, post the pics here and become a regular on this web site. You won't regret it.

Ahhhh, yes - the Vega Cream Cycle!!!! :D

Richard and I saw one in Pinellas Park, FL (between Clearwater and St. Petersburg) back in the late 80s. It needed a lot of restoration and the price was too high. That was when we learned about the Millionth Edition Vega. We kinda like them. we did not buy it. :bang:

So if its a code 86for the paint on the BODY TAG and an orange carpet ,its the one you are looking for.

I made the correction above its a 86 not a 61 as previously stated
