Decoding a 75 vega help?

Postby BadBowtie » Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:42 am

Ive been trying to decode my body tag but its not very straight forward with these cars sometimes, the car is a:
75 Chevrolet vega GT as far as i know, some proof would be nice, and acording to the vin from Lordstown, Ohio, USA ,
also my vin has the B code for the motor making it B = 140ci (2.3l) Chevrolet L4 2bbl which is different from the A code somehow hahah :lol:

A51 St supp ctr bkt
code 51L & U for bright yellow upper and lower
z95 i think is the canadian preped cars... ?

and thats about all i can understand I was thinking the 88BLK was for the GT stripes (D88) but not entirely sure

what im trying to do here is see/prove my car is a gt and maybe understand a bit more about it... i am currently looking to see if i can find the build sheet with all the options ordered on the car (when i bought the car it came with the removable tent, how rare would that be?)

sorry about the pic, it was taken the day i brought it home, hadnt even clean it yet (however now its been cleaned in out and even under!!)

Thanks

ST75 = 1975

1 = Chevrolet

HV77 = Vega Hatchback Coupe

U= Lordstown Assembly Plant

265602 = Production Sequence at that plant

19Y = Black Vinyl Interior

A51 = Bucket seats

51 = " Bright Yellow" paint ( Upper and Lower U/L)

05A = Ist week of May built

The rest of the #s ,some others will need to help you on ( Marco? ) Or some Vega guys!

Thanks Doug!

I wasnt sure what the HV77 was, because on the h-body.org FAQ section it wasnt listed as HV and i was sorta confused. Also im trying to figure out how to prove its a real GT if anyone knows :D

I agree with you that the 88BLK was indeed the GT stripes on the side of the body that go over the wheel openings.
I believe that a true Vega GT will have a 2bbl motor and that is designated by a B in the fifth digit of the VIN.
