Vega GT ZK limited model

Postby WilPhil » Fri Nov 27, 2009 8:26 pm

I stumbled across a cool vega, been looking for a coupe to make a street rod for a while. On the back of the trunk lid it has an emblem ZK limited, and it also has the GT emblems. I was wondering if its a rare car, or anything you can tell me about the ZK limited car. Thanks William

I might be able to help but I need to know what year. I did look through all the reports from 71 to 77 and there is no Regular Production Option ZK anything. Do you have any clue what ZK limited refers to like an interior option etc..? I'm don't know the Vega stuff very well but if it had an RPO code I should be able to tell you how many were made. Brian

I stopped and looked at the car, but the owner wasn't home. Probably out of town or something. I didn't look too close, didn't want the neighbors to think I was trying to steal something. Hopefully I will catch the owner home soon. The car is in good shape , and I will try to get some pictures soon. Just never heard of a ZK limited model. Thanks William

I finally talked to the owner, and found out the car is a 77' 24K limited edition only 11k made. The car has a solid body, only a little surface rust on trunk lid. What do you guys think it is worth, and how hard it would be to fix up. Thanks William ImageImageImageImageImage

looks kinda like the rear hatch might be saveable , either way not to bad

about the package , car looks to be a GT , and the 24k would be a dealer thing

also looks to have a center console from a monza

1977 with 24,000 miles or is the 24K a badge, emblem decal of a limited model?

4,276 GT's for 1977

Looks straight! I would look underneath it where they rust and go from there. It is a nice start for a street rod. Brian

Looks to be a no rarer than any other 77 GT hatchback found still running and on the road in somewhat original build. That center console was an option on the Vega as well as the Monza's.
Besides the console, it looks to have the optional tilt, air and custom interior.
The only thing non-original to this car would be the wheels and the 76 Vega motor sitting in the engine bay (76 corporate orange). All 77 Vega motors were painted the new Chevrolet corporate blue, and included a very noticeable pulse-air system tied in on the driver’s side of the head with a series of steel tubes.

Nothing special edition here, Am I missing something?

Could you get the GT option in a Notchback? There is a member here on H-body.org who has created a GT from a Nothback - it's a really good-looking Vega - but I don't think it was an original GT.
This 77 Vega has tremendous potential if the condition of the car is a good as it appears in the pics. Black over tan is a good-looking combination, too.

Other options are power steering, a 5-speed perhaps?, and air conditioning. From your other photobucket pics, it looks like the A/C compressor is missing, though.
Also, the badges don't look original to the era. Something added later.
Jim is correct about the engine color - my 76 is orange and my 77 is blue(no pulse air, though, but could have been removed by previous owner).
But, it looks like the engine in the 77 Notchback was rebuilt judging by the bright, shiny orange paint on the block and valve cover - the head is painted black :? .

If it has a clear title, is not rusty underneath and it runs, steers, and stops, I'd offer at least $750.

The guy told me he would take $ 2000 for the car no less. He said he liked the car but wasn't married to it. Said he paid 1300 for it. Honest about it, if I want it that is his bottom dollar. He said the engine was rebuilt by previous owner, probably painted it orange. The reason I joined this site, is to find a car, and have you guys help me fix it up. I can't look in the for sale section to find out what the cars are going for until I get 100 posts. It's kinda hard to submit that many posts without owning a car to talk about. Thanks William Save the pics to your PC, and pull them up under Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, will give you the largest size.

Oh yah, it is a hatchback.
I had read this thread before pictures were posted and I saw 'coupe' and 'trunk' and I was thinking Notchback. Even with the pictures I didn't see the profile which clearly shows a hatchback. :)

WilPhil,
I always start on the low side until more is known about the Vega.
Since the Vega has a rebuilt engine (Is the block sleeved? Any receipts?) and if the body and undercarriage are not rusty and the only bad spot is the hatch and it has a clear title and it runs real well and has good brakes, then it is probably worth around $2000, especially if you are not intending to do a V-8 swap. Something between $1500-$2000 is a very fair price, though. Go for it.

If it helps any with your decision, we tracked several restored or stock survivor 71-73 Vega Hatchbacks on ebay and they sold in the $6,000-$8,000 range. The later model Vega has not reached that level, yet. Although, there was one fully-loaded, brown over tan, 1977 Vega GT Hatchback, with only 67 miles on it that sold for $12,000 or $13,000 :? (CRS).

Yes, this is the place if you need info on repairing or modifying your Vega.

i think even with a V8 swap or V6 , having a running car is a good place to start , since you can drive it , and they will tell you how good everything else is and you can work on upgrading suspension , brakes , rear end all while the 4 banger is running and slowly gather parts , also helps keep some people interested in their project

i know im guilty of of moving to another project if something is dead or sitting to long with nothing going on
