first generation vega front spoiler

Postby Scooter66 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 7:43 pm

Does anyone have photos of the original chin spoiler?I ordered one from VFN 2 months ago, asking first if it was the stock style and not an air dam or have scoops,It arived today and is nothing like a stock one. It has brake cooling ducts and hangs about 6 1/2" from the body, its made well and pretty but not even close on looking OEM.I have one of the original SRD cars and it is missing its Spoiler and I want to keep the early Pro Stock style.VFN said that thiers is stock and have never had a complaint, then they told me I had to prove them wrong before they would do anything for me.All this for $167 inluding shipping and handling ,$122 for the part.
Sorry for the rant on the first post,But any help would be appreciated
Thanks,Pete krs@conversent.net

I forgot to mention VFN's contact info,www.vfnfiberglass.com and E mail vfnfiberglass@gmail.com .They did do a nice job on the spoiler maybe if they got enough of a response they might start producing the correct front and rear pieces.
Thanks again,Pete

Scooter,

You might want to check Car Domain for 71-73 Vegas there are several with front spoilers. You might see one there like you want.

VFN is about 20 minutes from me. A talked to them 2 years ago about their front spoiler. They said I would have to make mounting brackets for it. It didn't make any sense to me. I am going to try and post some pictures. The 71-73 Vega spoilers come in about 4 styles. 1. flat front, mounts below the front gravel pan. 2. flat front, outer edges come up the side a little. 3. air duct style that mounts below the gravel pan. 4. 2 piece, flat across front, edges come up along side.

Can you post a pic ofthe VFN part. I am actually looking for the one with the air ducts. I have been llooking back at old Car Craft magazines from the early 70's. There are a lot of ads from companies making Vega spoilers. A1 made a two piece. Urus. IECO. Interpart made one I believe. Motion had one. There were probably 10 companies that sold them.

Mine is the GM one that I bought from the local Chevy dealer, but the part # is long discontinued.

Thanks for all the fast responses. The one i have from VFN looks like the red one from GotMuds posting, the one I need looks like the one on the wagon in his posting.A Prostock Vega that still sits like it did in 73 just wouldn't be right with 12"long cooling ducts.

I'd like to see the VFN spoiler held up in front of the Vega. There are actually a few different styles of the spoiler type. Mark

I printed a copy of the E-Bay spoiler and i'll send it to VFN.I'm going to move to the drag section and post more photos of the spoiler and maybe someone will recognize the old paint as i haven't fully ID'd the car yet,a couple of leeds though.
Thanks

Good, more pictures are definately required. Will look forward to seeing them, especially once the spoiler is attached.

No word yet.I sent them at least 6 photos of the original style with a brief note.I'm calling them on monday,if i don't get the answer i'm looking for next will be the credit card company.I hate doing it,but it would be nice if they just came out and said they didn't know and would take care of it.Art said he'd check with a friend for an original, then maybe find someone interested in pulling a mould from it.
I'll let you know what happens,Pete
