I agree with Merle.

As SS mentioned, a Monza Spyder is indeed somewhat rare; about 7,500 of the 75,000 Monza Hatchbacks built in 1980.
Only about 25% of all Sunbirds built were Hatchbacks, including about 50,000 in 1980.

Restoring(or maintaining) any of these 2nd-gen H-bodies in a factory stock condition is a labor of love. Most H-bodies are worth more properly modified than in stock condition. If you do only one thing, replace the 13" wheels and tires with something in a larger diameter. The small diameter just doesn't look right. Do the 5-lug swap if you can't find any 4-lug wheels.
Other than the console, I don't think you can improve much on the interiors of these cars - they were top-notch back then. And the design still looks good even today.

Wishing not to be a braggart .
I am fortunate enough to have both of theses cars and the parts to do it.
Un fortunately I have had to put the sunbird in to daily action and in that the water pump faild and 2 days later the heater core . The siunbird is an ac car and has the basic fuel and speedo dash but I have the rally dash in black , not tan and I was thinking if I am pullint the dash for the core work why not change it ???
But then got to thinking that if I do it don't mach the build sheet ect
But suday is the day the dash comes out for the core replacement.

I am in the process of converting the dash panel in my base hatchback to the gauge unit, it is not an afternoon project as they are not even close in the wiring harness configuration.
luckily I have a GM wiring diagram book to assist and I will tell you it has been invaluable in making the conversion.
It's a time consuming project but worth it in my book.

The spyder has more value and will always have more value. Rarity doesn't directly translate to value, and these days any clean H body is a rare car. But spyder gets the nod due to graphics and a cool name.

I do think the sunbird would have equal value if H bodies readily accepted pontiac V8s. There'd be enough trickle down from the pontiac faithful, but the thought of chevy powered pontiac turns those guys off. Imagine a world where you can bolt together a super duty 455 sunbird the way you can do a chevy V8 today

In the world of higher dollar restorations, modifications like disc brakes don't seem to harm value as long as the car is a legitimate road car, and the modification is bolt-on. Plus with an H body, 5 lug is a huge plus as it opens a world of wheel choices. I would say most buyers will see that as a positive and it'd gain value despite losing originality

good luck with the cars
