tire width

Got a 5 lug conversion on my 79 spyder but the rears are 235 width. They scrape a little when turning so I was wondering if 225 would be enough. How much difference would that make in inches. Or is it just 10 mm difference?

There should be plenty of room for a 235 tire on the back of a Monza; sounds like you need a rim with a different backspace. Do they scrape on the inside or outside? What kind of rims do you have?

They are corvette rallys 7 inch and they rub on the inside.They barely rub but I WOULDN'T SAY THAT'S GOOD FOR A TIRE. aNYONE ELSE RUNNING 235'S . iT'S A PRETTY WIDE TIRE FOR A CAR THAT WAS DESIGNED FOR A 13 INCH RIM. Size that's on now in the back are 235 60 r15's. The fronts are 205's.

I'm running 235/60-15's on mine on an 15x8 inch rim with 3.5" backspace with no rub. Front's are 205/60-15's.

I recommend a pair of 1/4" thick wheel spacers; in fact a lot of H-bodies do not have the rear end centered- you might only need one and a not so gentle whack on the panhard mount with a BFH.

Don't know what that means but the passenger side rubs worse. The trans isn't on yet so I know it's far from being centered. What is this panhard mount you speak of? I thought it was that big link that holds it in place along with the 4 bolts to connect it to the tailshaft of the tranny that hold the rearend in place.

You are talking about the torque arm. Spense is talking about the panhard which is the suspension piece that runs parallel to the rear end directly above it. If you have more room on one side than the other, you can lengthen or shorten it to even the clearance.
Any one can restore a car but, it takes a real man to cut one up.

Are those stock rods(rod) adjustable? If they're not then I can see why you'd need a BFH. Don't think the stock ones are adjustable.

You adjust the stock panhard bar by adding/removing spacers under the body side mount. Lowering the mount moves the rear end towards the passenger side of the car, removing shims moves it towards the drivers side, also changing the spring hieght affects the centering of the rear axle.

Hi,
looked at your pic and it seems the tires are set inward a bit .iagree that you need some spacers to move them out.
