I checked with records and yes, the VINS are in sequential order and models could be mixed. They plug the last eight (8) numbers into the search function. That would include the year, the plant and the sequential number.

Year, Plant and then the last six digits for the sequential number. So if a Vega and a Monza were made at the same plant the last eight numbers could be identical??? But they should be the only models together since the sequential number starts with “1”! Other models are going to start with different numbers.

No, they would not be identical. I pulled a higher number (7U183121) at random and it came out a Sport Van, which was also built at Lordstown. The search function won't let us separate by model only by the last eight. There is no way that I can look for the last Vega without having records go through thousands of records.

OK, I'm just trying to work through this and I certainly appreciate your help! The reason I thought there would be identical numbers (last 8 digits of VIN) is because of the total number of Monza's made for 77. I forgot the majority were made in Canada. Only 6,230 Monza's were made at Lordstown and they were all Town Coupe cars. So that would give us a total of 84,632 H bodies made at Lordstown in 1977. This total goes past the Sport Van sequential number you looked up?

That is really a surprise to me that different models would have the same sequential range. I know all the models didn't. This is off the net so take it for what its worth - This way if the plant is building 3 different vehicles, each vehicle line will be in a unique sequential range - Camaros at 100001, Novas at 300001, Impalas at 700001, etc...

The Buick micro film was labeled for 1979 by the last eight digits of the VIN. The Skyhawk started with 4 for the sequential part of the VIN and you can see from the previous picture that these are 1979 models and then the Lordstown plant code 7 (in 79 it was 7). So that is what I'm trying to understand.
