1971 Chevrolet Vega GT

Hello from Colorado, My name is Tom Johnson, and I have recently aquired a 1971 Chevrolet Vega GT car model with 14k original miles.

I am currently seeking a copy of the "Chevrolet Vega Assembly Manual" document which would be the written instructions given to assembly line workers at the GM facility located in Lordstown, OH. during the 1971 to 1977 car model production years.

Since my 1971 Chevrolet Vega GT was shipped to Colorado, it was shipped "Vert-a-Pak" ( RPO VK5 ) and was originally equipped with a special AC Delco model Y86A battery that had offset fill caps.

Please contact me if you may have a copy of the "Chevrolet Vega Assembly Manual" or the special AC Delco model Y86A battery.

I wish I could help you out. I checked on a company that copied those manuals and reprinted them with GM's permission but I guess they are out of buisness. I would like to hear the cars story and see more pictures if you get the chance. Welcome to the H body internet community. Brian

Actually when you consider the cost of shipping cars from Lordstown Ohio to California or Washington State, I think it was a novel solution to packaging the Vega for transport. It was definitely an "out of the box" solution. They were able to quickly load and unload the cars and could maximize the as shipped space. Remember that this was during the original fuel crisis and the cost to transport by truck had jumped dramatically. The Vega program was run by accountants where cost was the primary focus and keeping costs down was very important. Depending where your Vega was sold it may have been shipped VertaPack. It's only been done with one car, The Vega truly pushed the envelope in many ways.

This is Grandpa Craig. I wrote to you a few years ago about whether or not you would consider selling your vega. You said your grand kids called it the bumble bee. Its an exact replica of my first new car. 71 gt, yellow black stripe with customer black interior. I would really like to purchase this car and i will pick it up within a week of you ok'ing the sale. please let me know if your ready to share this joy with someone else!
