Original exhaust pipe cutting ?

Postby Stevie » Sun Aug 19, 2012 9:43 am

Hi guys,

I have replaced my stock, original muffler on my 75 Vega (2bbl) against a NOS- part (with original GM- parts label) a few days before (thanks again to Clyde for his absolutely great support here and the search, ordering and shipping of this rare part !!!).
The new muffler looks perfectly like the old one and fit like it should.

The only difference to my old part (which I would rate as the one, that was mounted from the factory, as my car has now only 30tsd miles and everything looked like it was never replaced before) is the exhaust pipe end.
My old one was cut in a specific angle (see pictures) at the end while my new one is straight cut.

Could someone here verify what was the original setup ? I did not find any old pictures that clearly show the exhaust pipe.
Basically I would say, that the old (angle-cut) pipe looks better, but it the straight cut is original, I would keep the new one it like it is...

Thanks for every feedback,

Steffen

My guess is straight cut. Seen alot of Vegas in that period, ( worked at a gas station / mid 70's)
and memory tells me that all GM cars of that era had straight cut exhaust tips.

Back then if you wanted angle tips , you went to the autoparts store and got chrome bolt on ones.

My 76 Astre still had the factory exhaust on it when I tore it off before selling it to AZRick. ( it had straight cut)

Here's the only pic I could find - 73 Vega : http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7062/6889 ... d7cd_z.jpg
