Yea, I thought of doing a swap, but I would need help. I bought a 73 wagen in the 90s with a plan to do a 215 aluminum V8 swap (its actually easier than a small block). You don't even have to remove the driveshaft if you mount the radiator out front by the grill. It wasn't to be.
I just saw a cool V8 Vega (305) for 5000.

What contributed to the extra 400 pounds on the '75 Cosworth Vega over the '71 Vega?
Yes, bumpers are bigger. But they are aluminum.
Even with the 5MPH brackets attached, the front and rear bumpers don't account for the extra weight.

Little things all add up. Like you mentioned the larger 5mph bumpers with brackets add over 100lbs, then you add front inner fender wells 10lbs, I am sure the torque arm rear suspension add weight , but I am not sure how much 40-50lbs? Front and rear sway bars? Baffled gas tank on the CW ads acouple, catalytic converter ads some also. I am sure that others can add some more specifics that are slipping my mind at the moment

I thought of a couple of those but missed a couple Jeff like the torque arm vs. 2 upper con. arms but I did remember side door impact beams when I was young and strong I could not handle the doors (while doing door pins) by myself those Mo Fo's were HEAVY! Also those energy absorbing bumper shocks '71>'75 changed seat belts fixed to double retractors. I hate to quote the enemy Henry Ford II a 100#'s can be in 1 spot or 1 ounce in 1600 places it can add up fast with the changes that took place in that era! Alot of early '70's cars came with no carpet (or insulation) by the mid late '70's that was unheard of already. That's all that is coming to me for now Harry

Harry, I forgot about the door beams, but I do now remember the larger rear drum brake on the 76/77 cars, that and HEI distrib & deep pocket lower control arms and longer front springs. It all ads up
