Does anyone know the option numer for the 1976 nomad wagon option? The only reference I can find in my books is ZM4, but I think that was a GMC Vandura option that gave the van a nicer interior, and a goofy stripe.

cos2482 spells it out in that post. ZR5 is the RPO code and I've looked through the Chevy reports for 76 & 77 and ZR5 is not listed. If they had another unique RPO I could look that up and maybe we would luck out. Brian

great work, now how much did the Nomad package cost?

I gathered some info over the years, and I found this info. Can't vouch for its accuracy, but sounds plausible:

The Nomad package was sold to Chevy dealers for $168 (wholesale) by Motortown Corporation of Dearborn, Michigan. A standard Vega Wagon would be ordered from the factory by the dealer, Motortown would pick it up and add the Nomad package, which would transform the Vega into a resemblance of the 1955-57 Chevy Nomad wagon. Motortown would then return the vehicle "to the normal distribution network for shipment".

The List Price (retail) of $198 for the Nomad package included full vinyl roof, unique "B" pillar panel (inside and out), special moldings, and Nomad identification. Recommended options included Rally II Styled-Steel Wheels, Twin Racing Mirrors painted body color, and raised white letter radial tires.

Great. I am making my 1978 Sunbird safari wagon into a "Heritage Safari Package" as if they had made one. For the fun of it I am making a window sticker to approximate what it would have cost. The information you all have gathered is wonderful. It has helped me a lot with my restoration efforts.

There was also a sticker affixed to the door pillar or door by Motortown Corporation when this modification was performed. I don't know if the date was written or printed in the sticker, color, font, etc, as I have never seen a real one. I have two Nomads. One is in my storage, and the other one is currently undergoing body/paint.


I would greatly appreciate it if anybody can provide pictures of this sticker along with information to correctly reproduce one.

the information that is missing is the month of the conversion. We see about the same thing from van conversion companys when they come in new to our dealership. the conversion company has to certify their modifications meet safety standards at the time of modifiction.

If you need any tips on installing those panels and trim, send me a PM.
Be forewarned that those fiberboard/fiberglass filler panels are continually decomposing after all these years by way of off gassing. you will eventually find small bubbles/pinholes forming within a year or so with what ever you chose for paint .
If you look at the previous Nomad post photos, you will see where some of those panels had eventually shed paint over time.
Mine have been painted now for 8 years or so and still look ok from a few feet. Rub your hand across the panels and you can remove calluses.

Yeah, decomposing, kinda like the direction some of our slimy steering wheels are headed.
