Build Sheet Location

Postby Clebby79-2+2 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 11:04 pm

i had bought a 1979 Monza 2+2 Sport not too long ago. and along with the car i had got most or all of the original paperwork including the original title. i think it would be really cool to have the build sheet and add it to the collection of paperwork. just i dont know where to look. i had check the back seats but got nothing. any ideas?

Hi Clebby79,
Sometimes the sheets can be found in the back of the front seats oreven under the carpet. Maybe tucked in the springs under the seat.

Well your next bet is under the carpet. In any all foot well's. If the car stayed dry and had few passengers with snow feet. They might still be intact.
The rear seat bottoms pop out if you press in from the lower front. Then you can feel around underneath the carpets from the openings.

I found one under the console behind the shifter and another up under the dash bolted between something and the firewall.

Thank you guys very much. I found two. Both underneath the carpet on the passenger seat. Sadly one of them did not make it as it was boted to the floor by the seat belt. But I still have one. And its mostly eligible. Thanks again

Hey Caleb,
Can you scan it and post it? I'm curious if it has the same options as mine.

Thanks,
Bill

There is actually not supposed to be any, policy was to dispose of them, but human nature is to do what is easier and faster (remember the workers were on a time limit to do the assigned task) If it was easier to stash the build sheet in a spot not seen by the customer was easier and faster than walking a few feet and tossing the sheet in the approved spot.
I have found a max of 3 in a 1979 Sunbird wagon parts car one under the carpeting, one under the back of the passenger seat back, and a 3rd behind the passenger side door panel with some markings that indicated rework of the window regulator on that door. Other common spots are above the gas tank, and headliner. But they can be located almost anywere they can't normally be seen by the owner.

How many of you have NOT found a build sheet in your h-bodies?? It would be very interesting to know the approximate percentage that actually have found one!

I have NOT found any build sheet at all in my 3 Monzas :(

I didn't find a build sheet anywhere in my car and I stripped it back to bare metal. A bit disappointed.

I have a 77 Vega Wagon, and found an original build sheet on top of the fuel tank, it was damaged when I removed it, and I am trying to locate any one or place that has the ability to obtain another original
