I am doing some research for Tim Dye at the Pontiac oakland museum in Pontiac Ill. He inquired to me wondering if Sunbirds were ever shipped in the vertical Vert-a-pac mode rail cars? I told him I did not think so, Can anyone verify this?

Larry, this has been a subject here before and I don't know if anyone has found information showing the 2nd gen H body being shipped this way.

I do know that the Astre was though,

Neat question. It's almost a full no, because IIRC the later H body cars, Monza Sunbird Skyhawk Starfire Coupe and 2+2 Hatch were to big and bulky to fit.

But because the Sunbird was built in the Wagon Body Style, it's possible that model would have fit. But whether one made it onto a train is anybody's guess. I see the paperwork above suggests only the Astre .. great work Brian!

I found references that the rail cars were converted to three tier drive on cars in 1978. The 1978 Sunbird Wagon that I own does not have the Vert-a-pac option listed on the build sheet. I am 99.9 % sure they did not ship them that way.
