All,
I'm looking to decode my trim tag. I've done some digging and I am not sure what I've found so looking for some confirmation from the group. I've tried to attach a picture of it but this I cannot get it to attach to the message, so here's the

79 10D1HM07 7133735
24Y 29L 29U L
A51
49 7955

79 = 1979
10D = 10th day of April
HM = ??
07 = ??
7 = Lordstown, OH
24Y = Bright Blue interior
29U = Blue exterior upper
29L = Blue exterior lower
A51 = bucket seats

Not sure if I have this right or not and what all the rest of the numbers mean. Any help would be appreciated.
Bill

10D is 4th week of October of 1978 (1979 model year). Otherwise I think your good (I didn't look up paint codes or stuff). HM07 is the body type.

HM Round headlight,

07 Hatchback 27 for Notchback , 77 for wagon.

49= 49th day of Production.

7955= Your car's position on the final assembly line was 7955... meaning large cart's of varying Interior and painted trim items for a sequence of car's would be shuttled to specific point's on the assembly line, pre-staged in numerical order using this 4 digit code, to get picked up at just the right time, and assembled to your car which was also running down the line within this 4 digit code sequence. This allowed any different make and model and color to be assembled, back to back as needed.

Hope this helped. :mrgreen:

All,
Thanks for the input... I would still like confirmation on the paint and interior codes as well. I need to find out if the car was repainted or not as i am trying to get the front nose repainted as it is in bad shape but trying to confirm what i have on it. The color doesn't reflect what it is to me as it looks greenish in color vs. blue. The interior is definately blue.

This is all good information and very interesting.

1979 paint code 29 is Dark Blue poly. You can look these up on autocolorlibrary.com . Here's the link to the 1979 GM color chip charts: http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/aclchip ... m-pg01.jpg .

The L and U following the numbers mean lower and upper in case the customer wanted two-tone paint, I believe

It was also used for the vinyl top color code, if so equipped (U - Upper).

As for the extra L way off to the right... does your car have a factory sunroof? Or an extra trim option that's no so common? A trim tag is for thing's that might have needed to be known about the car, until it was done being painted and could then get paperwork taped all over it. Usually things that required an extra hole be drilled somewhere, Or some extra painting that may have been being done.

Full size spare perhaps?

Thanks all for the input.

The color, if it is dark blue ploy, looks more like the aqua poly in chip 41. Maybe the chip colors could have gotten mixed up or a possible repaint?

My car has no sunroof or full spare so not sure what other special option that could be... very curious.

Could the paint code be from 1978 since my car was an early year 1979 model? Just a thought.

The Dark Blue Metallic paint code (29) was not used in 1978.

The 'L' on the far right represents the use of a Lacquer paint.
