Re: Replacement Gas cap

I tried searching both part #'s(10746 and 10713) on the NAPA "ProLink" Jobber site and all it came up with was a couple of Nissan radiator hoses.
If I search by vehicle, all I can find is a locking gas cap, part # 7031169

I checked stant's web site, and searched for those part numbers, and no results. I got on O'reilly's web site and searched for 76 Plymouth Volare, and resulted in a Master Pro gas cap pn: 6746. It showed to be 4.319 inches in diameter. It may work as well.

The Master Pro cap that they show for Monza's and Vega's is pn: 6800. But it only shows to be 3.24 inches in diameter.

If you want to order one from them, you can have it shipped to your house. I have not checked one out yet, to make sure if it will work or not, they didn't have one in stock.

I looked under a 76 Plymouth volare, I don't think engine size matters. I can order one, and check it out, if you don't mind waiting. And I will post pic's and results.

Hey beakerztoyz, what year is your sunbird? I just looked on their website, and under 76 sunbird, it came up with a pn: 6713, which shows 3.815 inches in diameter. This may be a replacement for the 3.75 inches one.

I ordered the Master Pro 6713, and 6746 from oreilly's today. They said with the holiday, they'll be in Tuesday. I'll try and post results Tuesday night when I get home and have time to check them out. Brad

Thanks Brad , my sunbird is a 1980.. the guy i had checking couldn't seem to find one but he's not the guy I usually deal with, my friend who works there was on holidays, if I give him a part number I'm sure he can find me one. Also I had the guy check for locking caps cuz all my cars have flat chrome caps that u have to open with a key, maybe that was the wrong way to go a chrome cap like the one pictured a couple posts up would work too i suppose

I got off of work early today, and ran to Oreilly's to get the caps. Once I got home I inspected the caps, and tried each cap on my 79 Monza. Both caps went on securely. The funny thing is that I ordered the parts, and told them Master Pro, and the part numbers. Master Pro must be re-boxed Murray's. Anyway, the 6746 will need to be re-clocked, and the 6713 could be used as-is, but for a perfect fit, I would re-clock it as well. There is plenty of material, to drill new holes, and re-clock them. Thanks Brad, really appreciate the pictures. It could never just be easy here in Canada though we don't have O'Rielly's and apparently the parts store I get my parts through doesn't deal with masterpro (maybe thats an O'Riellys brand?) my parts guy seemed to think he could order me a cap for a 76 volare though said it would have to come up from the states if he could still get it. the last 4 digits of the part u got and the one he can order are the same though so I'm hoping it's the same one you've got. If not then I might start having to go on parts runs to Montana, I get so sick of seeing stuff on the internet and then being told I cant get it here.

I checked NAPA, and they have Balkamp brand. I checked part numbers and came up with 2, using 76 volare, and 76 sunbird. PN: 7031095, shows as a 4 and 5/16 inch cap, and PN: 7031028, shows as a 3 and 3/4 inch cap. Hope this helps. Brad

Thanks for the extra info !! I only talked to him on the phone about it, he's a good friend of mine though and had something up on his screen, I think he needed to make a phone call and find out if his suppliers down there had some, and wasn't sure when it would come.. but he told me if they had it he would order it. it's not a huge deal as I got one keyed cap that works but is kinda screwy on my maybe project car monza... and a painted cap that looks like these ones on my sunbird which seals nice... but a brown gas cap looks out of place on a blue car and I really dont wanna leave it off to paint it while the car sits in the unheated garage with a full tank of fuel. again I really appreciate you posting all this info, a chrome cap like what you just got will look so much better, and even if it take a while to get here its no biggy cuz the car ain't goin out till spring !

hey just wanted to update, I believe what my parts guy ordered was the volare part, anyways it had to come from the states or something so rather than pay extra for shipping i just let it come on one of thier normal stock orders. just wanted to give the info for any that might be in alberta or canada, I got it from Auto Value it is a motorad part #MGC-746 and it fit's like a glove, fills the whole space and I didn't even have to do anything to make it line up properly. thanks for the advice on here I know this is a stupid part but my blue car looks so much better with a chrome cap than it did w a brown cap!
