So basicly, the designers were pulling elements from all the sportiest cars from the era, for use on the redesigned Vega.

Nothing was really an original idea. Except the Dual Square headlamps. Those were all-new.

The stylists did a magical job of getting all the elements blended in so well eachother. What other economy based car has had so much exotic based styling since?

Maybe GM should try this formula out again,... Start with a small compact, and add some Enzo and Diablo ect....

Hey cool pics, thanks for sharing.

I think the red car above was being used to showcase the new 2 rotor Wankel power plant.

Pretty interesting stuff. I like this quote from Road and Track, "In all, a graceful, clean and understated design with subtleties one discovers only by looking it over carefully".

I think the the designers definitely captured that essence in the monza. Hanging out in the garage and checking my car out, I find my eye still going back and forth over the design, even after looking at one of these body shapes since 1980.

To me, its that interesting. A true poor-mans Ferrari.

I agree Marco. I starred at a Monza spyder when I was 8. I just loved the design and the lines. The year was 1978. I just wanted that car so bad. I bought my first Monza at 18 and my first Spyder at 19. It was a 1977 Monza Spyder and it was white with black decals, 5.0 and an auto. I caught myself staring at it all the time. I found a photo in a book that looked just like it and I couldn't get enough. I would give my GTO for one today. They are the most beautiful design, in my opinion.

Interesting topic! I also like to read and hear "The Story" of the Monza and the other H07 bodies.

Thanks :)

If you want, I can make better copies of both the text and photos. But how about copyright laws for old pics like this?
In Mike v A. article, it says " used with permission of GM media archives".

Has any of you been in touch with GM? Perhaps they have more H07 photos to share "for a Good Thing", like spread interesting info of the H-body Story on this forum? :)

It was because of digging and finding these pics/articles I posted this:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26153

And yes, it would be nice to know who the persons are on the pictures!

I've been in contact with GM media archives. Those pics wont be problem, unless you start offering them for sale in mass quantity. Or sell them under the 'GM Photostore' logo or anything...

Otherwise, for our personal use, they enjoy that we keep the cars memory alive, and GM on peoples minds.

I bet there's alot of famous names in the pic. Could be Larry Shinoda, Chuck Jordan, Irving R, Is that Lutz with the big hair facing the car? The face is familiar. Im pretty sure thats Mitchell all the way to the left in the suit and glasses.

I swear I still saw a very similar picture, shot from a different angle that actually says "Bill mitchel giving a concerend look over the new chevrolet monza" or something like that.

Here´s a little better pic of the clay model:
no3f.jpg

In this view the clay model is finished with a plastic film to simulate paint (1972). The rear facia has a rotary badge on it.

What I love is, what they came up with instead of what appears to be a more formal chrome bumper.

I really like the chrome bumper on that clay model.
I had been thinking of putting a chrome bumper on the rear of my Skyhawk with the existing rear wrap around lights. This would balance the look of the car with the two-light front end and chrome bumper that I am planning to install to replace the smashed front of the Buick. With a custom grill, this just might be enough to truly differentiate a Skyhawk from a Monza. 8)
Or it will look like a Frankenstein of an H-body. :D
