Thinkin of a radiator

Postby v8astregt » Fri Jul 07, 2006 1:30 pm

I found a Ron Davis unit, measures 26" x 19". It's a crossflow aluminum, good for 700 hp, and I can get it from Speedway for $209.

Gonna do some measuring today and see if it will be allright. If it is, I'll order it tomorrow! It would hang down a couple inches, does anyone think that would look okay? It's not like it would be in danger of hitting curbs or anything though.

I think it may be to deep at 19". The water neck may hit the K member or sway bar. Thinking out loud. You would need some clearance.

I've heard nothing but good things from Ron Davis. It appears that he makes pretty good stuff.

But he isn't cheap.

Make sure that the measurements are the overall measurements not the core measurements. 19" will hang down a lot.

I checked and double checked before, and those are the overall dimensions. I don't think 19" will hang down too far. It will be about 7 inches taller than the stock radiator, and about 4 of those will be behind the core support, so that leaves 3-3.5" max hanging down. I don't think an aluminum radiator would look bad with a little exposed. Besides, it doesn't matter how bad it looks if I can't drive it! We'll see. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and order it tomorrow. Gotta start somewhere!

I wouldn't trust that.. One small stone and you're toast. If you do that you shoudl fab up a cover for the exposed portion on the front of the rad..

That's probably a good idea. I'll have to see what I can fabricate.

take a piece of sheet aluminum.. decently thin.. have someone bend it at a 45 degree angle or so and bolt it to the bottom of your radiator support.. i don't know how your car looks underhood compared to mind but it shoudl be fairly simple..i'd think

with some mods i made it stick up higher with a glass
hood i notched out yhe hood and used the stock radiater
support on top with some mods but it fit fine

take off shroud part and use the support
bend it 90 degrees and make a lip to slip over
the top of radiater
the tanks are tight but it fit
