i want to put an electric cooling on my 76 vega hatch back. where exactly would i mount it? theres not much room between the radiator and the water pump. also do they cool better then the regular fan?

If you want to eliminate the stock fan you need to get a fan with a built in shroud like some folks are using. I forget what cars they came from, hopefully they will chime in. A good mechanical fan is hard to beat in terms of air flow, but no matter what you use you should use a shroud to pull air through the radiator. I just use the stock 7 blade V8 fan with a auxiliary electric pusher fan. Since I installed the Griffin radiator the aux fan has hardly run.

I'm using the Taurus fan which I LOVE. But to get it to work I had to build a new core support from scratch so a lot of fab work is required.

on my 75 vega, i am using a 26x19 aluminum radiator. clearance is too close on the engine side for a fan. so, i am using dual fans (pushers) mounted in front of the core support. they seem to work well with my "383". a lot of v8 vega set ups won't have room in front of the motor for anything but an electric fan set up. and, in a lot of cases you will have to mount something in front of the radiator.

My auxiliary electric fan is mounted in front of the radiator. When I got my Griffin radiator I was not about to use the common plastic ties that go through the core. I welded a flat piece of bar stock across the front of the radiator core support and attached my fan to that. This way it is mounted very solid and not touching the radiator.

fans,,,,cooling

Postby 2lucke4u » Tue Jan 02, 2007 11:31 pm

Mine is mounted inside and pulls air thru my 4 core,I removed the original fan off the water pump and the extension,I have about 7/16 clearance, this puppy runs as cool as a cucumber in 95 degree heat, the electric fan is a slimline model from flex-a-lite,I think 15 inches and about 3 deep with built in shroud,it is held in position with plastic mounting straps thru the radiator,it has to be turned on manually, when I had it the other way it was hard to work on the electrics with the key on without draining the battery,,so far no problems,,I will post pict when I can,,
